Red-necked Phalaropes! So on a boat trip off Fujairah we were in search of shearwaters which we saw none of… but the sea was alive with Red-necked Phalaropes. I’ve seen a few before but we had at least 520 bird including a flock of 250🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 it was magical! They didn’t like the boats engine but we still got magnificent view of them. Male n females, it was sooo good to watch them

Here we have Common Terns from the Fujairah, UAE. Several had nearly all dark bills and more uniform upperwings but all had typical Common Tern wing structure, bill shape, dark tips to underside of the primaries and calls (these were possibly slightly different). Some of these are hard to see whilst bouncing around on a boat, whilst several boat loads of Red-necked Phalaropes stream about the place. So how common do these dark billed individuals? How much does it increase as you head east? Unlike other east coast trips there wasn’t many Portlandica type birds, just one. Birding is so interesting

I’m still uploading! Getting all my recordings on both platforms is taking a bit longer than I expected. I’ve just started on Dunnocks and then the rest of the passerines. I think I’ve passed the half way mark… .bird.id
