Why Leg Day is Awesome
The muscles in your legs help you do everything from extending and rotating your leg in every direction, bending your knee, pointing your toes, and more.
Keeping your legs strong is especially important as you age. Strong legs can help you improve your balance to avoid trips and falls.
Change it up — Rather than running or walking the same track or trail every time, find a new area and give it a shot. If you can, go somewhere with hills, since they're great for building leg strength and adding intensity to your workout.
Exercises that improve leg strength include:
▫️Squats — Squatting is one of the best resistance workouts you can do. Exercises like this work almost every muscle in the lower body and are good for building leg strength. If you decide to start resistancetraining, this is an essential component of your program. Squat while keeping your feet flat and pushing up through your heels. Ensure your back is flat and your torso is upright while looking straight ahead.
▫️Lunges — Lunges are a great way to enhance strength and stability in your legs since you are forced to balance all of your body weight on one leg for a short time. You should keep your torso erect while looking ahead and keep your knees from going over your toes while lunging.
▫️Curls — This exercise works the back part of the legs, the hamstring muscle group. Runners have strong quadriceps (the ones on the front of the leg) and weak hamstrings, so this is especially important. Curl as high as you can as you lower the weight without letting the weight stack touch. In addition to strengthening the hamstrings, you will help prevent running injuries by restoring balance to the leg musculature.

Try this tasty breakfast smoothie to start your day, pair sweet fruit with nutritious spinach and avocado for a dose of calcium, vitamin C, folate and fibre.
Ingredients:
🔸160g ripe strawberries, hulled
🔸160g baby spinach
🔸1 small avocado, halved and the flesh scooped out
🔸150ml bio yogurt
🔸2 small oranges, juiced, plus ½ tsp finely grated zest
Put all the ingredients in a blender and whizz until completely smooth. If it’s a little thick, add a drop of chilled water then blitz again. Pour into glasses and drink straight away.
