For years, I thought I needed more discipline, clarity, confidence.
From the outside, everything looked “together.”
But underneath? I was managing a constant level of stress I didn’t fully understand.
Pushing through exhaustion.
Overthinking simple decisions.
Swinging between high performance and complete depletion.
So I did what most of us do… I looked externally.
Coaching, personal development, wellness tools.
They helped, but something still wasn’t shifting.
What I didn’t realise then, I see clearly now:
I wasn’t lacking mindset or ability.
My nervous system was dysregulated.
When your body is wired for stress, it doesn’t matter how capable you are.
You’ll still feel on edge.
You’ll still doubt yourself.
You’ll still struggle to switch off.
Because your body isn’t operating from safety.
And for many of us, this didn’t start in our careers…
It started much earlier.
I wasn’t trying to fix the wrong things.
I was just working at the wrong level.
Not mindset… but what sits underneath it.

I’ve been thinking more about that background hum so many of us have been feeling.
It’s easy to brush it off as just a busy period or a lot going on but it’s often more than that.
When your system has been holding a low level of stress for a while, it starts to show up in subtle ways.
You might notice you’re a bit more reactive than usual, or conversations feel slightly harder. Focus can dip, even when you’re trying. Decision-making can feel heavier.
Nothing dramatic. Just a bit… off.
It’s not because you’re not coping, more likely your nervous system has been working in the background for longer than it’s used to.
Supporting your nervous system isn’t separate from how you work or how you lead. It directly shapes how you communicate, how you handle pressure, and how you show up day to day.
Not through big changes, but through small, consistent shifts.
That’s usually where things begin to feel different again. 🧡

When did you lose your voice?
Do you remember that first time you were told to be quiet or you were told you can’t say something?
These messages we hear at an early age create a response.
No two responses will be the same but often in women those that have been told to be quiet or that their opinion or voice doesn’t matter end up suppressing their feelings and reactions for fear of upsetting someone.
Surpressing your thoughts and views can cause issues both physically and mentally.
Physically in issues with the gut, anxiety or even blood pressure whereas mentally the self doubt and worthiness issues can contribute to never feeling good enough or believing in themselves.
Please don’t tell your daughters to be quiet or not use their voice
Please don’t tell your daughters their opinions are not valuable.
Right, wrong or indifferent please provide them with a safe space to voice their truths and learn about themselves and what their views are.
Let’s try and get it right with our children so we are not raising another generation of muted women

I’ve slipped lately, I’ve let myself become overwhelmed and I’ve spiralled.
I’ve woken up every day feeling the full force of anxiety before the day has even begun. It’s impacted me physically, emotionally and spiritually.
There have been a number of rejections over the last few months and that’s been a big trigger for me. (More about that another time)
But, I’m choosing to forgive myself. I’m choosing to look at what I can change to support me in being a better version of myself.
The truth is habits can slip back in very easily and almost unrecognisably but that’s ok.
What’s important is having the tools to notice and the self compassion to forgive yourself, dust yourself off and start again.
I’m dusting myself off and going to look at the positive changes I can make. 🧡

Are you avoiding moving your body?
Maybe there’s a conversation you’re trying not to have.
A change you know you need to make but haven’t……
If you don’t make the first step the cycle will continue.
The issue isn’t doing what you’re avoiding, the issue is how doing it makes you feel or the fear around creating change.
Ask yourself why you’re avoiding it.
Is there a valid reason.
What would it feel like if you did it anyway.
Listen to your bodies reaction when you ask yourself these questions.
You’ll find a lot of answers on the other side!

Last night I had the pleasure of guiding a beautiful Yin Yoga Practice and offering Reiki for a lovely group of people.
Hosted by and in collaboration with with her lovely sound healing, we took the opportunity to reflect on what we are holding on to and what we are ready to release.

Something we don’t talk about enough is how YOUR trauma is showing up in the workplace.
Trauma isn’t the action – it’s the reaction to the experience and no one person is going to respond in the same way. Therefore, the way you then project that may be different to the next person, and by the way, that’s ok!
Whether your trauma is a result of past experiences or stress you carry in your body, unresolved trauma can lead to overreactions, avoidance, or burnout in professional settings.
The first step is learning to recognise it. One you can do that you can start using your skills to your advantage. Self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and communication are key to transforming how you show up in the workplace. All skills that can be learned but aren’t always present, especially with the impact of trauma due to the disruption of the nervous system.
A healthy work culture means understanding your triggers and learning how to respond, not react. Take control of your narrative and start healing so you can thrive both personally and professionally.
