The application of paint on the dial parts using the pad printing method may seem the easiest operation in watchmaking to people unfamiliar with watchmaking. What looks like a teaser is actually a very complicated process. The sequence of actions can't be changed. All the process is manual — the master carefully controls every movement.
First, he installs the tools and cliché on the machine and adjusts the print position. Then the watchmaker prepares the paint, mixes it until it is ready. After that, the master puts the part in the machine, fixes it, and removes dust from the pad's surface with a scotch tape — it is practically invisible, but even the slightest particle can damage the work. This is followed by the application of paint on the cliché. The pad's surface is covered with a special ink knife. Then, the master completely removes all excess paint. The most crucial moment is the transfer of the image to the part. The master uses the pad on the cliché, and transfers the paint to the part. After drying in the oven, the finished work can be installed on the dial.
