“I think people making that judgment didn’t watch the goal from every angle before deciding whether it should count or not.

That’s not an own goal. The rules clearly state that a goal is only ruled an own goal if the original shot wasn’t on target before the goalkeeper or defender touched it. Looking at the goal properly, the shot was heading towards goal.

The ball came off the bar and was already going in before the keeper made contact with it. People saying the assist should be cancelled are only saying that because it’s Bruno getting the assist.”

So when I heard Bruno Fernandes deserved Player of the Season, I asked myself: based on what exactly? Individual numbers alone? Because Manchester United were never serious about the title. They never competed for the Premier League trophy deep into the season.

And it’s significant that even with Arsenal winning the league and City pushing them all the way, no player from either side won the award. That tells you how difficult the standard is for this trophy.
