We’re delighted to be speaking at the GEMS Wellington Neurodiversity Conference on 16th May.
Our session, “From Surviving to Thriving with ADHD”, will focus on practical, strengths-based approaches to supporting individuals with ADHD to move beyond simply coping and towards genuinely thriving.
We’re looking forward to contributing to such an important conversation around neurodiversity, inclusion, and meaningful support for young people and families.

Returning to school after a time of conflict or war is not a “normal” back-to-school transition. For many children, especially those with ADHD, it can bring a deep sense of anxiety and uncertainty. New rules, increased security, changed routines and conversations they may not fully understand but can definitely feel. What might look like “defiance,” “shutdown,” or “lack of motivation” can often be thoughts like “is it safe?, “why are things different?”, “what if something bad happens again?”, or for younger children, “I don’t understand what’s going on”.
ADHD brains already find transitions, unpredictability, and emotional regulation challenging. Add uncertainty and heightened stress, and their nervous system can quickly become overwhelmed.
Remember that in times like these, children don’t need perfection. They need safety, predictability, and steady, reassuring adults. Acknowledge the changes and expect a slower adjustment, as this isn’t a typical transition. And always remember to make space for questions, even the hard ones. Good luck everyone x
