You never know how your body and your mind are going to respond to a situation until you are there⦠You can guess, but you never know until you are in the thick of it.
Im not after the adrenaline rush⦠itās actually the opposite. In the mountains, Iād rather not feel any adrenaline. Itās the opportunity to control my mind and body and to remain calm and composed in conditions of extreme consequence.
Our minds are so much more powerful than we often realize and I will take any chance I can get to push it to the edge of the comfort zone. They say thatās where the growth is.

Throwback to the rappel down off Victoria Peak. After we climbed up out of the clouds on the summit we had to head back down into the mist.

You donāt always reach the summit, or win the game or get to do the thing that you wanted to do in life.
We have a choice though, to perceive it as failure or to perceive it as an experience; an opportunity to learn and grow. Some of our most powerful lessons and opportunities to grow come from adversity and challenge and discomfort. And what is life without these things.
I wouldnāt be who I am today if I had made it to the Olympics, if I had got into the first masters program I applied to, or if I was still in that old s**t relationship that I wanted to work out. Every bump, every turn, every situation that doesnāt āwork outā is an opportunity to learn, grow, reflect, re-evaluate, seek understanding and be more human.
When achievement happens, we often celebrate the achievement itself, but the reality is that it is the reflection and culmination of all the things that came before it. All the failures, all the disappointment, the heartbreak, the injury, the loss, the grief. Itās process vs outcome.
Without discomfort there is no growth. And I am so so grateful for the opportunities Iāve had for discomfort and failure over the years. Itās helped shape me into the person I am today.
Set big goals, fail, have the hard conversation, push your body to its limit, say no or say yes but speak your truth, be honest with yourself.
Just know that every action taken toward discomfort is making you better, stronger, more resilient, more courageous, more confident. And more human.
