🏆 CHAMPIONS! 🏆

We have emerged victorious in the Victoria Friday Orion League Midnight Tournament in Sharjah, defeating Kingsford XI in the grand final – the very team that beat us twice in the league stage. But when it mattered the most, we rose to the challenge and claimed the trophy! 💪🔥

Batting Highlights:
Thimira played a pivotal role, anchoring the innings with a brilliant half-century, while Dilshan, Supun, Malindu, and Ashen all chipped in with valuable runs to push us towards the winning mark.

Bowling & Fielding:
Nilanga, Mihiran, and Pasindu picked up two wickets each, with Dilshan adding another. Our tight bowling and sharp fielding turned the game in our favor and kept the pressure on throughout.

Leadership:
With Athula unavailable, Methsiri led the side with composure and tactical brilliance, silencing the critics and guiding the team all the way to the trophy.

🏅 Individual Awards:

Malindu – Best Batsman & Most Sixes of the tournament

Dilshan – Best Fielder

Nilanga – Most Dot Balls Bowled

This was our very first tournament played till the end – and we walked away as CHAMPIONS. 🏆

We’ve made it to the finals, securing the second spot in the league out of four teams. Kingsford has had the upper hand against us so far, being the only team we haven’t been able to beat yet. But now, it’s all about stepping up, and I’m confident the team will rise to the occasion. Let’s give it everything we’ve got and bring the win home!

Maliya Ashen, you did a fantastic job with the bat, showing your usual impressive performance. Thimira is also on the rise and will soon join you in helping us secure a spot in the finals.
Sigithi, well done, mate! Your amazing bowling, especially taking 3 wickets on your first time in this format, earned you the Man of the Match award- a well-deserved honour you've been waiting for. That was a truly special spell, and I'm confident you can do it again anytime.

What a remarkable day it was! The Desert Lankans showcased their exceptional talent by decisively defeating the Tusker’s Cricket Club. This victory is a testament to our strong team effort, determination, and resilience, with every player contributing to the win. Star performances from Malindu, Supun, Dilshan, and Thimira propelled us to the top of the table, alongside the entire team's impressive effort.

Despite a challenging day for Tusker’s cricket club (Tuskers Fury), it was great to see you try your best in the second half, even when your batting lineup faced difficulties. We, the Desert Lankans, wish you all the best as fellow Lankans.

Our boys took calculated risk and gave no hope of winning to the opposition. Achieved the target with a boundary with 34 balls to go and seven wickets in hand. It was a comfortable win even though it was tried hard to shown otherwise. Desert lankans came back to winning ways like a storm and currently the table topers at the stage with 1+ NRR while tuskers fury with -1NRR & seems like whiskers. We are topping the leaderboards with bowling and has secured 2nd place in batting leaderboard just falling 5 runs behind a player from 2nd position of the table.
Not like the first game, what went to the last wire.
We play as a group, we believe in unity.

Tuskers Fury may have posted a low total on the board (104 runs), but our boys showed true character and resilience. 💪 Despite the pressure, we fought hard and made Desert Lankans work for every run until the 15th over. It was not an easy chase, and that fight shows the spirit of our team. 🐘🔥

Though the result didn’t go our way, we are proud of the determination and never-give-up attitude shown on the field. Onwards and upwards, Tuskers!
