A slight chance of wind encouraged the race officer to send out the fleet in the morning. With the shifting and declining winds, the race committee had to change the course marks several times. At around 12:35 the 5th start for the first race was successful, for most. Several boats were a little too eager to get on the racecourse and were noted as BFD. This score will be transferred to Saturday, as unfortunately the race had to be abandoned, again.
Once on shore, the waiting continued until 17:30 when the race officer announced that there will be no more chance for racing today. The good news he gave was that there will be beer and lasagne tonight, the bad news was that the scheduled starting time for the first race for Saturday will be at 07:00 in the morning. Hopes and caffeine intake will be high!

The 17th District Star Championship took place from May 30th to June 2nd, 2024, at the Union-Yacht-Club Attersee as part of the European Star Sailing Festival.

Despite challenging weather conditions, 35 boats from 10 countries competed at the lake Attersee with wind speeds between 5-15 knots and occasional heavy rain.

The Croatian team, led by Marin Mišura and Tonko Barač, showed exceptional skill and strategy, mastering the windy and rainy conditions to win the overall championship with impressive performance and 4 points. The German team, led by Heiko Winkler and Uwe Thielemann, took second place, while the Austrian U-30 Youth Team, Roman Stelzl and Pirmin Sablatnig, finished third.

The sailors demonstrated great sportsmanship and camaraderie during the regatta. The event was organized by the Union-Yacht-Club Attersee with support from many volunteers. The championship will be remembered as an exciting and competitive event, serving as a great preparation for the upcoming European Star Championship from June 4th to 9th, 2024.

Little recap of day 2 at the 17th district championships:

Day 2, but first day of sailing delivered with some fresh southerly winds (8-15kts), heavy rain and 3 races!

The croatian boat with Marin Misura and his crew Tonko Barac dominated on this tricky day of racing with 1/1/2 !
Followed by Heiko Winkler and Uwe Thielemann from Germany and our local U30 sailors Roman Stelzl and Pirmin Sablatnig.

For the last race of the day it was Tom Loefstedt and his crew
Samuel Goncalves coming home with a win!

56 teams with sailors of 19 nations have already entered the European Championship by May 6th.
A total of 107 teams have entered to the three regattas of the European Star Sailing Festival 2024 – so it`s gonna be big!
Also you can still take the chance to be part of this unique event and sail with us to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Attersee-Fleet.
Please remember that there is a ranking over all three events of the European Star Sailing Festival. The trophies are waiting to be taken!🤩
