Late summer and autumn hit different for brown trout. The leaves start changing, the crisp air kicks in and the water turns glass-clear. Right before spawning season starts, these fish go into full-on feeding mode - and honestly, there’s no better time to be on the water.

A quick heads-up: Double-check your local regulations! Most spots shut down around mid-September or October so the trout can get some peace and quiet for spawning.

Mention Louisiana’s endless saltwater marshes, and most fly anglers think of giant Redfish.

Summer in the Mississippi Delta offers another target along the open water and Barrier Islands. Here, fly fisherman hunt the US South Coast’s most brutal brawler: the Jack Crevalle.

In saltwater, the Jack Crevalle stands as the ultimate test for angler and gear. These predators show no mercy to drag systems and never take a break. Most gamefish tire after one long blistering run. The deep-bodied Jack turns broadside into the current instead. He uses his muscular frame for punishing, deep vertical battles. 💪

As a fly fisherman with over 40 years on the water - from the mountain streams of Austria to the most remote atolls of the Indian Ocean - I can tell you that what Alex and Matt „Irish“ Solon achieved on Farquhar is nothing short of legendary. A 61cm Moustache Triggerfish isn’t just a „good fish“; it is a true titan that tests the absolute limits of tackle and skills!
