Life Appreciation Post!
Tonight, I dropped into The Gov to watch students from SSacred Heart Collegeshowcase their musical talents on stage.
It was fantastic to see so many excited (and nervous!) students doing their thing on a real stage at a real venue, making real things happen.
It was especially fulfilling to see some of my new drum students perform with a band, along with students I’ve taught since Year 3 – and even a few I hadn’t seen since Year 3!
Sacred Heart College is turning out some great performers, and the performances from NNeil Christophers guitar gods and goddesses were great!
Nothing fills my cup more than seeing young, aspiring rockers becoming something greater than themselves.
I have so much respect for all my seasoned peers, whether they play music for fun, as a hobby, or for a living.
But no matter where we are in our journeys, it all begins somewhere. We’re all on the same path as musicians – some of us are just further along.
Whether you’re like me, a Peter Pan-style drummer holding onto my youth through music, ( still gigging every weekend ) or you're a first-timer on stage, we all bring something unique to the table. Some have already hit their 10,000 hours, and some are just beginning the climb.
– I've been thinking about organising another show. Maybe four or five bands on the bill, in a great venue, managed and run by a the bands.
Putting on your own shows is such a great way to develop your chops – I'll chat more about that later.
For now, though, my cup is full – and I know other teachers', and most importantly the students', cups are overflowing too.
