Why Women Hesitate in the Gym — & How They Push Through 26/04/2026

Your experience matters!

Thank you to everyone who has filled in my survey so far. Your experience and support for others wanting to get into exercise or head into a gym is so important.

I would love to have a few more people to contribute to this great topic for a future Podcast.

If you could help by filling in this short survey and SHARE with anyone you know who is worried about starting exercise or fears going into a gym or someone who has been doing this on a regular basis. Both views really are key for this.

I appreciate all your feedback as it helps others immensely. I want my Podcasts to be for the community so any ideas on topics will be great too.

Some great topics are definitely coming so look forward to sharing them with you all.

Why Women Hesitate in the Gym — & How They Push Through This short survey is for a podcast episode exploring women's experiences with starting exercise, especially weight training. Your answers are anonymous and will help create real, honest content. Thank you!

The most common question I get: "How much protein do I actually need?"

Here's the honest, simple answer.

In perimenopause and menopause, your body becomes less efficient at using the protein you eat. Scientists call this "anabolic resistance" — basically, you need to eat more protein to get the same muscle-building effect you got from less in your 30s.

The general target for women in our age range: around 1.4–2g of protein per pound of bodyweight per day, depending on your exercise activity.

If you weigh around 75kg (165lbs), that's roughly 115–165g of protein per day.

What that actually looks like in food:
✅ Greek yoghurt = 20g
✅ Chicken breast (medium) = 45g
✅ 2 eggs = 12g
✅ Cottage cheese = 18g
✅ Protein shake = 25g
✅ Tinned tuna = 35g

That gets you to around 155g in one day — scary but can be completely doable with a bit of intention. However aiming for 30+ grams per meal can be a great starting point and step by step progress this (every week or fortnight) to what is needed.

What's your biggest barrier to hitting your protein? I'd love to help — drop it in the comments 👇

Why Women Hesitate in the Gym — & How They Push Through 21/04/2026

I need your help!

I would love to ask you all a great favour.

I want to create a Podcast on why people struggle to start exercise, strength training (home and in the gym), Gym intimidation, what keeps you going to the gym and how you stay motivated.

Your experiences are so valuable. This could help others start to make a change or for those who are still trying to make that decision it could help them tackle those fears or hesitation.

I have attached a survey that everyone can contribute too. Whether you are going to the gym, working out or not taking that step yet. All your input is so important.

I really hope you can help.

If you have any questions please reach out.

For a long time, women were taught to approach fitness by doing more… and eating less.

More cardio.
Less food.
Avoid heavy weights.
Thin is healthy

And for a lot of women, especially in their 40s and beyond, that approach is now catching up with them.

Not because they didn’t try hard enough —
but because the strategy wasn’t built for long-term health.

What actually matters as we get older?

→ Maintaining and building muscle
→ Supporting bone density
→ Eating enough to fuel your body
→ Training with purpose (not punishment)
→ Prioritising recovery just as much as effort

This isn’t about doing extremes or starting over.

It’s about adjusting the approach so your body is supported — not constantly pushed into the ground.

And yes, it works at any age.

If this hit home, let me know below or send me a message — I’m always happy to help guide you in the right direction 🤍

Yes, I had the honour of being interviewed myself by Amy on women, fitness, peri/menopause and more. And..drum roll please...It's being launch THIS FRIDAY.

I am so excited to to have featured on a 2 part episode of Quit Like A Badass and I hope you get the opportunity to have a listen. Yep 2 parts. If you know me, you can't shut me up about my love of what I do😂.

Most women don’t need more discipline.

They need a plan that actually fits this season of life.

After 40, pushing harder isn’t the answer —
*training smarter is.*

If what used to work doesn’t anymore, you’re not broken.

Your body just needs a different approach now.

If you’re ready for guidance that’s calm, supportive, and sustainable, comment "PLAN" and let’s talk it through.
