As the summer activity increases, you may notice more police and marine officers patrolling the River Murray 👮‍♀️🚤 With the launch of Operation River Safe now underway, police are urging river users to take a moment to respect the river and revisit key safety steps: • Wear a properly fitted life jacket that meets the AS 4758 standard. A reminder that Pre 2010 jackets are no longer acceptable and must be replaced. (Failure to carry or wear a compliant life jacket can result in a maximum $1250 fine!) • Know the river conditions. Currents, debris, submerged snags and sudden depth changes can pose hidden risks. • Avoid alcohol around water. Alcohol remains a major factor in river drownings. • Supervise children closely. Young swimmers must always remain within arm’s reach. • Never go alone. Always plan to swim, boat, paddle or fish with someone else. Operation River Safe will run throughout summer alongside the Respect the River – Make the Right Call initiative. For information on life jacket regulations and safe boating practices, visit marinesafety.sa.gov.au. Report unsafe behaviour on the water to SAPOL on 131 444. Stay safe, and enjoy the river this summer! ☀️
