For those who missed it, we have a huge announcement!
Our Gym now has a personal trainer. And not just any trainer. One who understands squash having been an elite player.
Somerton Squash are proud to welcome Jason Groves to our community.
Jason has spent nearly 30 years in fitness and coaching, building on a background as a high level squash player during one of Australia’s strongest eras in the sport.
Jason came through the squash ranks when Australian squash was super strong. This was a period when 25 to 30 Australians were regularly ranked inside the world’s top 100, training alongside and competing against some of the best players in the game.
A former SASI athlete and AIS squash scholarship athlete, Jason was ranked No. 1 Under 19 in South Australia, became a Top 3 senior men’s player in the state, and reached a world ranking of No. 98 in late 1999 and early 2000.
After injury and health challenges ended his playing career, Jason moved deeper into strength, conditioning, movement and rehabilitation. Certified as a personal trainer in 1997, he has coached across squash courts, gyms, outdoor settings and his own training facility, which he built, ran and later sold in December 2025.
Now as a trainer and coach at Somerton Squash Centre with Michael, Jason helps squash players and everyday people build strength, move better, improve resilience and perform with greater confidence.
Please say hi to Jason if you see him around the centre and make him feel welcome.
Please also feel free to ask him about any personal training requirements.
