It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Oliver Miller, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, surrounded by his family, aged 58.

Oliver was an exceptional supporter of the Bund der Bayern through his role as Manager at Häfele.

His generosity and enthusiasm strengthened our community in countless ways — from sponsoring raffle prizes, to hosting Oktoberfest events in the Häfele showrooms, to partnering with Adelaide German Week for two wonderful cooking nights in 2022 and 2023.

We will also remember Oliver for his calm, steady nature — including the day our Group Leader, Reinhard, got a little too enthusiastic during a Schuhplattler performance in 2021 and crashed straight through one of Häfele’s display pieces after dancing on a kitchen benchtop. Oliver handled the moment with his trademark humour, patience, and kindness.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family.

Ruhe in Frieden, Oliver.

Congratulations!

UPDATE!

After four fantastic years of leadership, Reinhard Struve has stepped back from his role as Program Director of the Adelaide German Week.

The festival has now been formally incorporated as its own independent association — an exciting milestone for the future of the event.

Last Sunday, Reinhard completed a five‑hour handover session with the new Chairperson, Karin Andraschko‑Schlosser. The photo of Reinhard holding a well‑earned Hofbräu beer at the end of the day captures the moment perfectly.

Reinhard founded the Adelaide German Week in 2022, inspired by and closely aligned with the long‑standing Brisbane German Week. Since then, the festival has grown to welcome around 1,000 attendees each year, supported by businesses, state and local government, the German Embassy and Consulate, volunteers, and many wonderful community partners. We are grateful for his vision, energy, and dedication.

Reinhard continues as Group Leader of the Bund der Bayern., with a renewed focus on bringing Schuhplatteln (traditional Bavarian dancing) back to life in South Australia.

We warmly wish Karin and her team every success as they prepare for the Adelaide German Week 2026 — möge sie blühen, wachsen und gedeihen.

If you’ve enjoyed our events over the years, we’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to share your feedback or kind words in the comments — they will mean a great deal to Reinhard and to all of us.
