In February this year I bit the bullet and did one of Zinzino’s at home whole-blood dried spot test which looks at the balance between your omega 6s and omega 3s.
This ratio is an important biomarker for systemic inflammation.
The “ideal” ratio is 3:1 and despite eating what I consider a healthy diet, my reading embarrassingly came back as 19:1.
So this gave me a pretty clear indication that my cells were as rigid as rocks !!!
I started the omega 3 balance oil and I remember Leonie Long Live You said to me that we will get you back running.
After not being able to run for over 6 months, I didn’t really believe her.
About 4-5 weeks ago (3 months taking the balance oil) I started to re-introduce running.
3-5kms each time.
3 times a week.
After each run I was able to walk.
In the beginning they were slightly achey but this has now gone.
Yesterday I ran my longest run in 12 months.. managing 12.5kms from the city all the way back to the Northern beaches.
So Leonie you were right, I am now back running 🥳🙏
With patience and persistence and being consistent with strength, mobility, low-impact cardio and power sessions PLUS the addition of balance oil I am back in my happy place running.
This is why I am feeling very excited to be joining the Zinzino team and to be learning from passionate scientists on who are on a mission to inspire change in lives.
Huge thankyou also to Jan Hutnan for helping me understand how I can implement different training methods into my program and help way more than just my feet.

Last August I injured my plantarfascia playing my first game of netball in a very long time, and embarrassingly it happened during a simple, straight up and down jump.
With rest, ice and strapping it healed.
I played a few more games however both feet started to hurt intermittently.
There was no pattern as to why or when they would hurt but they started to wake me through the night and the pain was worse after they had rested.
It is difficult to explain the pain but at worst it was almost like the bones in the top of my feet were breaking and the muscles were being torn off the heels.
Thankfully as I moved the pain eased. After a couple of months it started to ease but it still lingered.
Ironically I have actually been including my feet into my training programs for years now and I feel like I have a decent understanding of how important the foot/ankle complex is for good movement so it was pretty disheartening when I couldn’t get on top of the pain.
I learnt pretty quickly just how much I actually took healthy feet for granted.
I saw a physio and she was a little confused as my symptoms didn’t match her assessment of my feet.
I talked to my GP about peri-menopause as I was also experiencing other changes in my body. Because the pain fluctuated and I still had so many other things I could do that I enjoyed we decided to watch and wait.
I remained consistent with my foot / ankle exercises and my weekly strength sessions.
I included mobility exercises for the hips and thoracic as I know how everything is connected to everything.
I got creative with low impact cardio exercises.
When I was able to I re-introduced a Power session to rebuild elastin in my tissues.
But each time I would try and return to running the next day I was unable to walk without pain.

Loved this memory that popped on my feed today 💗
7 years on and Belle is still joining me in a workout .. in fact she instigated a cardio workout tonight and absolutely smashed it!’
I love that these little workouts are just a normal part of life for her.
And I love that she enjoys sharing them with me 🥰

We have had some new team members join the crew this term and it has reminded me just how much I love it when people begin their journey with me.
After just 2 sessions Helga has already noticed a difference in her body. She is moving easier, she is feeling more balanced and she is soo happy to be doing something for herself 💗
Love my job 🥳

This comment from James after our session this morning is feedback at its best 💗
He is making small changes that can literally save his life.
Falls are the second leading cause of unintentional injury caused deaths in the world.
Adults older than 60years of safe suffer the greatest number of fatal falls.
For the majority of people, our balance begins to decline from the age of 50 however it can start declining earlier for some people.

Thankfully there are things you can do throughout your day to help improve your balance, co-ordination, strength and confidence.
