SENIOR FOOTY WON’T BE THE SAME WITHOUT SHIRL

It is sad to hear of the passing of Shirley Wallis last month; our thoughts go out to the family and to the community who knew her.
Shirl was a huge part of the Bendigo Senior Secondary College (BSSC) Aussie Rules Girls and Boys programs.

She started helping in 2007 in roles such as Team Manager, Timekeeper, score board operator and managing the uniforms.
As you walk into a BSSC game you could hear Shirl barracking and giving advice.

While battling illness, Shirl came to watch the Premier League boys play at Eaglehawk in 2025.
As you can see in the photo, nothing made her happier than the grand final win in 2018 on the QEO.

Rest in peace Shirl!

SENIOR SANDHURST DIVISION BASKETBALL

The BSSC Lions competed in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Senior Girls and Boys Sandhurst Division Basketball on Friday 22nd May at Red Energy Arena.

The Boys team played hard with high intensity for the first two matches against SEDA and Marist College, getting the win in both games. The last match was the deciding game against Catherine McAuley College. The Lions were on the back foot in the first half and played catch up basketball after that. The team managed to get within 3pts with 2 minutes to play but were unable to pinch the win. Overall the team finished in second place.
Thank you to Steve Black for coaching the team and to Jack Bell for scoring.

The Girls team played Marist and Catherine McAuley College in their competition. The opening game was a free flowing game with the Lions finding the lanes and open layups. The team went onto to win comfortably. The second game was the decider with CMC having minimal numbers but played a smart style of basketball. The Lions were unable to stop the outside shooting and finished second overall. Thank you to Rhylee Po***ck for assisting and to Delaney Boyd for scoring.
