Happy 79th Birthday Soke Barry Wilford!
We are extremely lucky to have Barry, 10th Dan, on the mats with us, sharing his martial arts experience.
Barry commenced training in Queanbeyan in 1967 and graded for his black belt at 34 years of age in 1979. He started a branch in Queensland in 1980. His commitment to training is admirable!
In addition to our club, Barry has trained with notable artists including Phil Brain (Judo federation), Stuart Brain (fought the Oceana Circuit Judo Asia Pacific), Wally J and James DeMille (whom worked with Bruce Lee for 7 years).
Barry trained actor George Lazenby (James Bond 007 and in the late 70’s Barry trained HMAS Penguin personnel in Sydney.
Barry’s favourite jujitsu technique is the coathanger with major leg sweep and favourite judo technique is the body drop tai otoshi.
Off the mats, Barry has a love for roller skating, the driving range, fishing and is a talented pianist!
Thank you Barry for all your decades of sharing your knowledge in self defence, one of life’s most important skills!

We listen to our students! They requested a night of boxing and that’s exactly what they did last night! The students showed true grit and are pumped to do it again next week! If this sounds like fun, why don’t you come see what we do?
