The Esri Young Scholar Award 2026 featured some excellent projects. π
Our winner, Lucy Hughes, used GIS to help record, monitor, and manage stone-walled fishtraps across the Wellesley Islands region. Sheβll join Esri Australia this July for a paid internship. π
The runners-up did some incredible work too. Warsini Handayani used GIS to project estimated future hydrogen demand and plan refuelling stations for heavy-duty freight. Zhou Zhouβs project mapped potential Dark Sky Reserve sites across Queensland to show where night-sky protection could connect with conservation, access, and tourism. β¨
