🏏 **Toot Byron Cup 2026 — Day 1 Match Review**

The 2026 Toot Byron Cup got underway on Thursday 9 July at Shaw Park, with two strong opening fixtures setting the tone for a huge weekend of Over 40s T20 cricket.

On Ian Healy Oval, the **Knights** made an impressive start to their campaign, posting **5/170** from their 20 overs before restricting the **Rampage** to **7/127**. Ryan Broad led the way with a classy unbeaten **61**, well supported by Andrew Gray with **25 not out**. With the ball, Kish Nadesan was outstanding, claiming **3 wickets**, while Steven Paulsen added further pressure with **2 wickets** as the Knights secured a convincing **43-run win**.

Over on Alan Pettigrew Oval, the **Cattlemen** produced a composed run chase to defeat the defending champion **Surfers** by **3 wickets**. The Surfers posted **8/144**, led by a brilliant unbeaten **74 from Jarrod Officer**. The Cattlemen bowlers shared the work well, with Santosh Nistala and Sunil Sood both claiming **3 wickets**. In reply, Dhanraj Ramamoorthy guided the chase superbly with an unbeaten **58**, while Steven Page contributed an important **42**, as the Cattlemen reached **7/145** in 19.3 overs.

After the opening night, the **Knights** sit on top of Pool A, while the **Cattlemen** lead Pool B, with a full day of Friday fixtures now set to shape the race for finals.

Plenty more cricket to come today across Ian Healy Oval, Alan Pettigrew Oval and Geoff Dymock Oval.
