The first round of finals saw Don’t Give A Duck take on Doyle’s VIII. We lost the toss and were sent in to bowl first.

With the ball, Spencer Dimitrov Melides led the way with an outstanding spell, conceding just 9 runs from 3 overs at an economy of 3.00. Some important early wickets helped cut through Doyle’s top order and keep their run rate under control.

Spencer Dimitrov Melides and Ben Jeffs also finished #1 and #2 on the Brisbane Honours Board for bowling economy rate for the weekend. 👏

With the bat, Ben Jeffs got us off to a strong start, retiring on 50 off 35 balls, including 3 huge sixes. Eric Williams then took over, smashing 55 off just 19 balls, including 5 sixes, at an incredible strike rate of 289.47. 🔥

Overall, Don’t Give A Duck proved too strong, chasing down the target in just 14.4 overs to come away with the win and move on in the finals. 🦆💚

🦆 DON’T GIVE A DUCK – REGULAR SEASON SUMMARY 🏏
Our inaugural Don’t Give A Duck regular season is done, finishing 5th out of 8 teams. A great effort from a brand-new group, with plenty of positives to build on heading into the future.
A huge congratulations to Nathan Leddy, who was our standout performer throughout the season, finishing with 307 runs while also leading the bowling attack with 7 wickets. An outstanding all-round campaign.
A special shoutout to Tyler Watson, who gave everything for the team every week. Always putting his hand up when needed and giving his heart and soul for the boys, no matter the situation.
Most importantly, this season was about building a team, creating a great culture, and enjoying our cricket together. We’ve laid a solid foundation, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

🦆 DON’T GIVE A DUCK – REGULAR SEASON SUMMARY 🏏
A massive effort from everyone in our first season as Don’t Give A Duck. We finished 5th out of 8 teams, and while the results didn’t always go our way, there were plenty of positives to take into the summer season.
A huge shoutout to Nathan Leddy, who led from the front all season. He topped the side with 307 runs while also collecting the most wickets (7), making him our most consistent performer with both bat and ball.
Special mention to Tyler Watson, who was always there whenever the team needed him. Whether it was with the ball, in the field or backing the boys, he gave 100% every game and never stopped putting his heart into the team.
This is only the beginning. We learned plenty, built a great group, and we’ll be back bigger and better for the summer. 💚🦆

🏏 MATCH SUMMARY | Don’t Give A Duck vs Oh Boy VIII
Winning the toss, we elected to bat first but unfortunately suffered a batting collapse early. Nathan Leddy stood tall when we needed it most, fighting all the way through as our last man standing with a superb unbeaten 65 off 44 balls, giving us a total of 121/7 from our 20 overs.
With the ball, it was a short-lived innings as Oh Boy VIII chased the target down in just 10 overs.
That wraps up our final game of the winter season. It wasn’t the finish we were after, but there have been plenty of lessons along the way. We’ll take those into the break, regroup, and come back stronger for the summer season.
