WALKAROOS FRANCE 2027 – A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL EIGHT TEAMS!
3 WOMEN’S TEAMS + 5 MEN’S TEAMS = ONE WALKAROOS FAMILY!

A huge congratulations to all our WalkAroos players who have progressed through our recent selection trials and are now preparing for the IWFF World Championships in Béziers, France, from 3–6 June 2027!

The commitment, cooperation and due diligence shown by our players in confirming their places has been outstanding. It is a credit to everyone involved that we are making such positive progress so early in the preparation process.

OUR THREE WOMEN’S TEAMS — ALL CONFIRMED!
A special congratulations to our Women’s 40s, 50s and 60s squads, who, in just six days, have all confirmed their places for France next June!

This is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the commitment of our players, their enthusiasm for representing WalkAroos, and their willingness to work with us to finalise our squads well ahead of the tournament.

Every player has been carefully processed through our selection program, which we believe provides a thorough and considered approach to assessment, team placement and selection.

Just as importantly, our players now have clarity about their positions within the squads, allowing everyone to focus on preparation for the challenge ahead.

Congratulations, ladies — you have set a terrific example for all our teams!

WELCOME OUR TWO WALKAROOS WOMEN’S COACHES!
We are also delighted to confirm that two highly experienced and dedicated coaches will oversee our three women’s squads in France.

Please join us in welcoming:
Paula Hooper
Stuart MacFarlan

Both will play an important role in coaching, supporting and looking after our women’s teams before and during the championships. Having experienced coaches in place is another significant step in ensuring our players are well prepared and supported throughout this international experience.
We sincerely thank Paula and Stuart for taking on these responsibilities.

OUR FIVE MEN’S TEAMS — ALMOST THERE!
Our five men’s squads are also progressing well, with the overwhelming majority of players having confirmed their places.

Out of the 5 Teams, we are now awaiting confirmation from only 3 or 4 players. We hope to have those final responses over the coming days so that we can move forward with all five teams firmly established.

We will also be looking to confirm the coaching arrangements for our men’s squads shortly.

To all our selected men: thank you for your cooperation and commitment so far. If you are among those yet to confirm, please finalise your response as soon as possible so we can complete this important stage of our preparations.

ONE WEEK - EIGHT TEAMS CONFIRMED. ONE WALKAROOS FAMILY. ONE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY AHEAD!

Putting together eight competitive international teams across Australia is no small undertaking. It involves extensive work behind the scenes, from trials and player assessments to squad formation, coaching, venues and international tournament coordination.

We are proud of the progress being made and grateful to the selectors, coaches, volunteers and players who continue to contribute to the development of WalkAroos.

With our three women’s teams confirmed and our five men’s teams nearing completion, we can now look forward with confidence to the next stage of our preparations for France.

Congratulations to every selected player. Wear the green and gold with pride, support your teammates, and let’s make France 2027 another memorable chapter in the WalkAroos journey!

France 2027 — Here we come!

Thank you all again - it's a complete pleasure working with you.

WALKAROOS INTERNATIONAL SELECTION — PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

It is that time of year when our selectors come together to discuss what we have observed on the park over the past 2–3 months. Every player is assessed and discussed as part of what is a challenging selection process. We ask all players to understand the standards required and the reasons behind them.

YOUR FOOTBALL HISTORY IS NOT YOUR CURRENT WALKING FOOTBALL ABILITY

Being a great footballer at 20, 30 or 40 does not automatically make you an international Walking Football player today.

Returning to football after years away requires physical and technical adjustment. Walking Football demands different movement patterns, balance, fitness and decision-making. Some players adapt successfully; others do not.

That is not a criticism. It is simply the reality of the game.

FITNESS IS ESSENTIAL — AND 12 PLAYERS PER SQUAD IS NOT GUARANTEED

There appears to be an assumption that every squad will automatically contain 12 players. That is not the case.

We will select up to 12 players per squad only where the players meet the required standards of fitness, ability and readiness for hard, competitive international Walking Football. Those standards must be demonstrated during assessments and relevant events. We also receive information about player performances throughout the year.

International competition is a significant step up from casual or social football. Technical ability alone is not enough if a player cannot maintain the required performance throughout a competitive match.

Fitness and readiness directly affect:

Movement and mobility
Work rate and endurance
Concentration and positioning
Decision-making and consistency
Recovery between efforts

Selection is not about what you can do for five minutes. It is about what you can consistently deliver throughout competitive football.

WE EXPECT ADAPTATION, IMPROVEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

If you have previously been told that you are still running, making contact, failing to walk back in defence, not moving off the ball or needing to improve your passing accuracy, your next assessment is an opportunity to demonstrate genuine improvement.

We have seen players who trialled last year, were not selected, and have continued to display the same habits. If you have received feedback, it is your responsibility to work on it and demonstrate that you have improved. You cannot blame the selectors if the areas identified for improvement remain unresolved.

We are not looking for the same player to return with the same weaknesses. We want to see a player who has listened, worked hard, adapted and improved.

THE STANDARD IS RISING

Your past achievements will always be part of your football history, but they do not guarantee your place in a WalkAroos international squad.

Our standard of talent has improved significantly. Players come and go each year, and selection will reflect the level required to compete internationally. Only players who demonstrate the necessary fitness, ability, discipline and willingness to adapt will be considered.

If you are not selected this time, use that outcome as motivation. Identify what needs improving, put in the work and come back stronger at the next opportunity.

Show us what you can do today, not just what you could do yesterday.

We are looking for players who are fit, adaptable, consistent and ready to compete at international level. The opportunity is there — but you must demonstrate that you are ready for it.

THE JOURNEY TO FRANCE 2027 HAS BEGUN! 🇫🇷
See our exciting video clip from the first 2 Trials in Qld and NSW

We are incredibly proud to announce that our Walking Football Australia WalkAroos Trials journey to France 2027 is well underway, with 2 of our 5 States — Queensland and New South Wales — now having completed their trials over the past two weeks.

And what a journey it is already proving to be!

With more than 185 players listed to be assessed for France 2027, the passion, commitment and desire to represent Australia on the international Walking Football stage has been truly inspiring.

Over the past four years, the Walking Football Australia WalkAroos Trials Program has been built around some very simple principles:

⚽ FULL Transparency
⚽ Fairness
⚽ Opportunity
⚽ Professional organisation
⚽ Consistent assessment
⚽ Respect for every player

Our aim has always been to create a program where every player can step onto the field knowing they will be given a fair, transparent and well-organised opportunity to demonstrate their ability — regardless of where they come from or who they know.

⚽ SELECTION IS EARNED ON THE FIELD NOT OVER A PHONE CALL ⚽

One thing we are particularly proud of is that our selection process is exactly that — a selection process.

With more than 185 players registered to be assessed for France 2027, players are coming through the same structured trials, assessments and selection process. Nothing is being taken for granted, and no player should assume their place is guaranteed.

Over the past four years, we have consistently worked to ensure that selection is earned on the field, through ability, performance, attitude, teamwork and the qualities required to represent Australia at an international level.

There will always be speculation whenever representative teams are being selected, but rather than respond to rumours or opinions, we believe the best answer is to simply show people how we operate.

Our trials are open, structured and transparent, with selectors assessing players and recording their observations throughout the process.

The evidence will ultimately be in the selections themselves.
We are incredibly proud of the fact that players can walk onto the field knowing they have a genuine opportunity to put their best foot forward.

That is what fair selection should look like.
No promises. No shortcuts. Just the opportunity to earn your place. 🇦🇺⚽

As we continue to grow, we continue to learn, refine and improve the process. That's how we make the WalkAroos program stronger for everyone.
But none of this happens without people.

There have been so many players, selectors, coordinators, volunteers, clubs and supporters putting in tremendous effort behind the scenes to make these trials happen.

To every one of you — THANK YOU! 🙏👏

🎥 PLEASE SEE OUR TRIALS VIDEO CLIP BELOW

This 90-second clip captures just some of the passion, intensity, determination, emotion and sheer desire we've witnessed over the past few weeks.

Turn the sound up, watch it through to the end and see what International Walking Football means to so many people across Australia. 🇦🇺⚽

These aren't just trials.

These are dreams.
These are opportunities.
These are players chasing the chance to wear the green and gold.

And behind every player is a story, a family, a club, a selector, a volunteer and a whole lot of people who believe in what we are building.

THIS IS THE WALKAROOS JOURNEY TO FRANCE 2027

We still have 3 States to go — and the journey is only just beginning.

👉 WATCH. SHARE. SUPPORT. FOLLOW THE JOURNEY.

If you believe Walking Football in Australia deserves an international stage, share this video and help us show Australia — and the world — just how much passion, talent and commitment exists in our game.
