A brief history on our head trainer Dale Artango!
Born in Papua New Guinea on 04-07-1965, Dale moved with his Family to Brisbane in 1973.
Dale trained in Brisbane throughout his distinguished amateur career where he won a total of six Queensland and four Australian Titles. Representing Australia and fighting internationally, he also got a bronze medal in the World Championships in 1983, losing to Meldrick Taylor who went on to win the Gold medal in the 1984 Olympic games before turning professional. As a professional Meldrick Taylor won world titles in two weight divisions.
Dale turned professional in March of 1984 against Ronald Doo, an awkward southpaw who already had 23 fights under his belt. Doo was 15-4-4, yet Dale won this bout via stoppage. Racking up the wins over the next 8 months, Dale fought Pat Leglise later that same year in just his seventh fight. Leglise was 22-0-1. Another stoppage victory would come Dales way.
In October of 1985, just 19 months after turning pro, Dale travelled to Melbourne to take on the highly touted Greame ‘Porky’ Brooke for the Australian Lightweight title. Brooke, the Nephew of Lionel Rose, was former Commonwealth champion with a record of 20-1, with his only loss coming at the hands of Barry Michael. Although being in his very popular opponents’ hometown, Dale won the fight over 12 rounds. This fight is stilled talked about as being one of the best of that era, which was the golden age of Australian boxing.
Dale won a few more fights then travelled to Thailand to fight for the PABA title, to which he unfortunately came up short. His next fight was another tough loss to eventual world champion Lester Ellis. Dale then bounced back and won his next three bouts before a draw in his last fight against Kevin Kelly, who would go on to win the Commonwealth title, as well as a PABA and WBU world titles.
Dale retired in 1993 with a final record of 21-2-1 with 12Kos and was inducted into the Queensland Boxing Hall of Fame in 2012.

Dale is taking AOS’ classes and is also available for one on one sessions. Get in contact to learn from a true great!
