The current conditions at Belmont Duncan range are nothing short of perfect for record-breaking scores. Heartfelt congratulations are in order for Jasmin Ellenberger, one of our newest members, who shot an extraordinary 105.16 with a club rifle, indicating a bright future ahead. TR Champion Leigh O'Donnell led by example with a stellar 105.14. The scores posted by Chris Evans SPCO(105.10) and Dan Rolf SPCO(105.09) were equally impressive. The presence of such promising talent is a welcome development for our club.

Some somewhat light reading to kick off your night/morning on the past weekend going-ons (especially seeing as there wasn't a chance to wrap things up).

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, John, Kev, Jenny & Peter trialled for the National Veterans Taipans Teams. We hope everything was in their favour and they were able to put their best foot forward.

On Saturday morning the QRA held their Champion of Champions competition, where Frans battled the morning taking the victory in FTR - well done Frans!

Saturday afternoon was a standard 800 yards competition and boy did we do well with so many highlights on cannot list them all... But Andrew did top the range, Ella got her first 50 (in TR), Rob got a year... wiser, and many scored double possibles but it just wasn't enough to top the range!

On Sunday morning, the QRA opened the range for another exciting match - the Titans Teams event where many Pacific members competed. Of note, the CrossHare FTR Squad, including Andrew - coach, Frans, Josef & associate member Rob G took a lead from the get-go, only growing that margin until the end and taking the win. Mel, coaching Darcy, Karen, Corrie and Julia plugged some epic scores and wrapped up also winning the match in F-Standard - cracking job! Josh, with his mix bag team (from many clubs) composed themselves for a strong and steady win - unsurprisingly leaving Nic with the dishes again. Jenny, John and Kev were spread amongst Veterans for practice and all plugged some excellent plots - well done. In Sporter, Sn!per, with Brendan, Jasmin and Lucas banded together to come a great 3rd place. Rob B jumped ship and competed with a few NARC members while Geoff branched out to the Albert Central crew. All in all, a great day and one I think many will be keen to do again next year!

It’s Australia Day! So let’s reflect on a core part of Australian history!

🇦🇺 Fullbore R!fle Sho0ting 🇦🇺

1 - With origins in the 19th century and clubs that have existed for over 100 years, fullbore sho0ting is one of the country’s longest‑running organized sports to this day.

2 - Combining its history with militia training in its early days created the deep heritage making Australia one of the foundational nations of global Fullbore competition.

3 - The QRA Queensland Rifle Association is Queenslands oldest sporting organisation, its founding year dating back to 1861.

4- In 1876: An Australian R!fle Team (combination of NSW + Victoria) becomes the first team ever to officially represent Australia in any sport internationally, touring Britain and the USA. This is the first ever Palma Match - a teams competition which grew to become the most prestigious teams event worldwide to this day. Their tour is so successful that it inspires the decision to send Australia’s first official cricket team overseas the following year.

4 - Speaking of Palma, let’s jump forward a moment and look at Australia’s successes! Their first Palma win occurred in 1979 in NZ, a small break before a win on home soil in 1988. Then a dry spell of 31 years 😳 before, under the guidance of our very own Darren Enslin, the Australia team went on to win the Palma Match in 2019 (NZ) and 2024 (South Africa). An incredible moment for the team and great read in the history books.

3 - 1888: The National Rifle Association of Australia (NRAA) is founded, unifying colonial rifle associations and establishing national governance for fullbore sho0ting. They are one of the first governing national sho0ting bodies worldwide. They continue to govern disciplines, national competitions and gradings.

4 - Largest Queens event in Australia occurred in the mid 1980’s with over 600 competitors in Queensland (both TR & F-Class)! Can you imagine 600 cometitora at Belmont Shooting Complex - with manual targets!

5 - It’s a lifelong sport AND all can compete. On a range (at least the one we play at) you will see men, women, of age children and those with disabilities participating well into their 70’s and 80’s, on an equal playing field.

6 - Not a legit fact but many consider our sport a form of meditation. Technique, mental focus, preparation and breathing lead to internal harmony - and good scores!

So, when asked why we do what we do, the answer is ‘how could we not?!’ Wishing everyone a great day!!

First OPM of the year and it’s for a cause - supporting the U25’s in this brilliant sport! Cheers to our 13 Pacific members who proudly wore our blue.

In TRA, Peter and Graeme battled against the masses. Graeme, adapting back to the lovely climate, gradually peaked after the 300 yards, finishing 9th place. Peter, sho0ting well with a doozie here and there finished up 14th.

F-Standard A and Mel consistently challenged the pool, peaking at 90 yards, taking the Day 2 Aggregate and finishing in 2nd place overall. Great first OPM for the year Mel. Lana making her debut in A grade and starting a whole year older (Happy Birthday Lana!) took to the range with consistent scores and smiles. Kev participated in Day 1, peaking the first range with a 60.09 and spending some time with his lovely wife today. John joined the party today and some great and one not so good.

In F-Standard B, Julia gave Saturday a good crack but things were not playing the game. Whole Rob B also only competed on Saturday, he showed up, had fun, smiled and put some cracking groups on a target.

In FRT, Andrew cracked on, taking the 300 yards range and finishing up 4th. He called in reinforcements and Frans + Josef jumped on board, Frans still full of Birthday cheer (Happy Birthday Frans!) taking a place at each range and the Day 2 Aggregate.

New members of Pacific Brendan and Ben had competed in SPC, Saturday only. Both got a 50 throughout the day, hopefully enough adrenaline to keep them coming!

SPC-O, the Sn!per Steve got hit action on, with a clean sweep at 500 yards and a bronze finishing gong.

Congratulations to all, I hope you are proud of your achievements and know where to focus next.
