We used to think we needed motivation to stay disciplined

Until we realised motivation can come and go, but discipline is choosing to keep going anyway despite the feelings or the circumstances, which is when we stopped waiting to feel motivated and started becoming the people who follow through and do what they say they’re going to do. I used to think I was helping him to fix his race when I gave him feedback.

So after one particular regatta I began asking questions.

What happened on the start line? Why did you sail that side of the course? What happened?

He blew up, he didn’t need my analysis or barrage of questions.

I knew he was right. He needed a parent who would listen, not a parent who was trying to coach him or fix it!!
