A great start to the season with our annual Staff Induction Day on Saturday last week! ⛵

We kicked things off with a working bee, replacing the hiking straps across our Tackers fleet and getting some maintenance done on the Hobie Waves and RS Quests to make sure everything is ready for a busy season ahead.

Once the jobs were done, it was time to get on the water. The team took the Quests and Hobies out for a sail, jumped on the paddleboards and helped us capture some fresh content along the way.

After a well-earned pizza lunch, we headed inside to go through our key focuses for the year, safety procedures and some of the latest coaching and instructional techniques for sharing sailing.

A big thank you to the whole team for getting stuck in. We’re looking forward to a huge season ahead at C*C! ⛵️

A huge congratulations to Gerry Brooks, who was named Volunteer of the Year at last week’s Australian Sailing - NSW & ACT Awards Night!

Gerry has been an incredible part of sailing in the ACT for more than a decade, giving countless hours to help make racing at Canberra Yacht Club possible.

Over the past year, Gerry has continued his work as a Race Officer at C*C, while also officiating at major events including the Australian Masters Games and the Castle 650 National Championships.

A huge amount of Gerry’s contribution also happens behind the scenes. From race documentation and results administration to his work on the C*C Safety Committee, he is always willing to step in and help keep things running safely, fairly and smoothly.

Thank you Gerry for everything you have given to the Club, and everything you continue to give. Without volunteers like you, so much of what we do at C*C simply would not be possible, and our sport is better because of people who are willing to give their time, knowledge and energy to it.

Thank you also to Australian Sailing - NSW & ACT for recognising Gerry’s contribution with this very well-deserved award.

Congratulations Gerry, and thank you for all you do. 💙

The Bonds Flying Roos SailGP Team followed us, invited us to collab AND hit David Pocock with a “let’s make it happen” on the Canberra SailGP idea.

We are, naturally, remaining completely calm.

2026 NSW & ACT She Sails Award - Canberra Yacht Club! 🎉

Congratulations to Canberra Yacht Club, recognised for its outstanding contribution to growing women’s and girls’ sailing in the ACT by creating a welcoming, accessible and sustainable pathway into the sport.

Through SheSails social sailing activities, a Discover Sailing Day, subsidised Learn to Sail courses for women, and a dedicated Sail Our Way youth program, the club has engaged over 100 participants throughout the year. This has led to strong retention, repeat participation and progression into further sailing at C*C.

Delivered by passionate female instructors, volunteers and role models, the initiative has removed barriers, built confidence and created lasting opportunities for women and girls in sailing.

Championship racing starts today!

Before we hit the water for our first Championship race of the 2026–27 season, we’ll be holding our Season Opener Briefing at 1315 in the Sailors Cabin.

A chance to run through everything for the season ahead before getting out on the water and kicking off the Championship Series.
