THESE GUYS HAD ONLY ONE LESSON IN 4 STEP SWING TRIPLES, AND LOOK AT THEM GO!! So proud of them :-)
These awesome dancers have been learning to dance for a while, so picking up Triples was not as difficult as it would be for a complete newcomer... but dancers often don't realise there's a new range of skills you need to tackle for Triples.
Followers need to learn to keep an eye on each other and what each other is doing, keep an eye on their distance to each other and the lead, and also to maintain their own footwork independently. Followers also need to "stay within the bubble" and keep their energy and movements within their own space, and to follow the direction they are being asked to move accurately rather than generally.
Did you know instead of solidly using only single, only double, or only triple steps, it's best to combine all three? Single steps for short distances, double steps for punctuation, flair and expression, and triple steps for moving smoothly across larger distances.
Leaders have the hard part of not only deciding what steps they are doing themselves, but also deciding what to lead not one but TWO follows! Leaders also have to be more precise in their leading, directing follows in more confined patterns to create cohesion, but also to ensure there are no bumping issues.
Did you know that this is where prep steps, compression high fives, and combining arm leads with your body leads, becomes really important for clear leading?
Triples are a challenge, but they are so much fun!!
Join us on a Tuesday night for classes at The Victoria Hotel Yarraville!
