We will be running our third and final FREE ‘Club Link’ session for Murrumbeena Cricket Club. This Sunday at 2pm. If you haven’t already contacted us about participating please do so! The session is targeted at young fast bowlers.

Secondly, registrations are now open for our Summer Camps running in January (see previous post for more details).

Booking for our Summer Holiday Camp are now live. Girls and boys from all clubs and of all abilities welcome. Recommended for children aged 7-13.

Our camp days run from 8.30am - 4.00pm, perfect for those cricket mad youngsters looking to hit some balls and have fun, while learning from our qualified coaches.

We were lucky enough to have along to our Bowling Clinic at Murrumbeena Park on the weekend. Some great shots of the participants (and coach) in action!

Why is it so important to protect our young fast bowlers?

There are many factors which contribute to the particularly high rate of injury amongst young bowlers. All fast-bowlers face the risk of injury but why do we see so many teenage /early 20 year old quicks breaking down with lumbar spine related injuries?

All fast bowlers are susceptible to injury due to the forces at play during their delivery, combined with misalignment and inefficiencies in their bowling action or physical imbalances. However, the risks are increased for younger (under 25 y/o) bowlers due to their less developed bones.

The graphic above shows just how much our bones develop through our adolescent years. We start to hit our peak in our mid-late twenties, with significantly less bone density in our teen years.

These developing bones are then put under additional stress when we ser young bowlers exhibiting actions which go beyond the spine’s natural range of movement. Commonly we see Lateral Flexion well beyond the spines ROM and Counter Rotation.

Our upcoming free sessions for our Club Link partner look to identify bowlers demonstrating actions which place them at a particularly high risk as injury.

Our first FREE Club Link sessions have landed!

Research (and experience) shows that young fast bowlers are a high risk group with regards to suffering injury. Our bowling assessment aims to help identify young bowlers with actions which display traits which place them at higher risk of injury.

All junior cricketers registered to Murrumbeena Cricket Club are invited to attend a free bowling assessment.

Those identified as ‘at risk’ will then be invited back to a free follow up session.
