RE: Geelong / Western Beaches Regatta Saturday 17th March.

Its with great disappointment that I have to advise you that we are postponing our event on Saturday too.

The latest weather forecast is for early strong wind activity, and getting stronger as the day progresses. As such, City of Geelong and Parks Victoria have requested we postpone the event to ensure everyone's safety.

We would like to reschedule to April, and when we find a suitable date, we will advise.

Thank you again for your support for this event and we hope to get it back on the water soon.

Stay safe everyone.

Come and join PLOC for fun, fitness and friends. Contact Jacqui 0438367997 Outrigger canoeing is fun and sometimes crazy, often exhilarating and very competitive.

It relies on synchronised team work, technical skills and strategic thinking. If cross-training is your thing, or you are looking for another alternative to the gym, running, cycling, boxing or other sport, then please come and join us. You can get involved in Marathon and Sprint racing in either one or six man canoes. Or just come down and paddle socially. We encourage everyone at any level to come along and have a go. Patterson Lakes Outrigger Club is always looking for new paddlers.

Saturdays paddle session turned into a clean up our water session. Friday nights rain flushed a lot of rubbish into Patterson River so the crew picked up what they could to stop it reaching out beautiful bay. We’ll done PLOCers.

Our local drone guru Eugene captured these amazing photos of the OC1s a few days ago. I can see our superstar Lissy in these photos 🤩

How beautiful is our bay!

Thank you for sharing these photos of our piece of paradise Eugene 🙏

What a sensational morning on the bay ☀️. It was our first paddle in the OC6 in a long time! Lockdowns are over but our trolley had ceased up with lack of use 😳. It’s fixed now, so we’ll be paddling regularly again 🤗 Want to join us?

Sydney Harbour Challenge 2022 is ON.
Plan your teams now to race our iconic event at Manly Beach on 26 February 2022.
All international and national teams are welcome. This is a spectacular ocean racing event taking in Sydney's most recognisable landmarks on the course. Keep an eye out for more details in the coming weeks.

AO National Sprints Championships 2021 to be held on 26 - 28 November 2021, Sunshine Coast, QLD is cancelled.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted on many national events around Australia due to interstate travel restrictions and state lockdowns. Our events team have monitored the daily federal and state government information and the current directives do not allow the opportunity to hold a national sprint event this year. With teams and individuals not able to travel interstate and for some states not able to have community sport in play, it is for these reasons, the AO National Sprint Championships 2021 is cancelled.

AOCRA planned to use this year’s event to qualify club teams and paddlers intending to represent Australia in the elite competition for the IVF World Sprints 2022 competition. Good news, inline with the IVF qualifying rules AOCRA can qualify teams and individuals intending to compete.

More information will be published in the next two weeks on how to qualify.

AO National Marathons 2021 Highlights

All Members

We are pleased to officially announce today in conjunction with Paddle Australia at 2:00 PM:

AOCRA and Paddle Australia secure a new ocean racing event partnership between PA Canoe Ocean Racing Championships & the AO Ocean Downwind Series. Please read the attached document with all the details.

Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association (AOCRA) and Paddle Australia (PA) are pleased to announce an ocean racing collaboration for 2021. Under this collaboration AOCRA, the national sporting organisation for outrigger ocean racing, will host this year’s 2021 Paddle Australia Canoe Ocean Racing Championships. These championships will be held in conjunction with AOCRA’s Ocean Downwind Series 2021 Race 4 on 1 December 2021 in Perth, Western Australia.

Both national sporting organisations offer ocean racing competition pathways for their respective canoe disciplines being; outrigger canoes and ocean skis. We collectively see the value in offering a quality event for both canoe disciplines to compete in the one ocean racing competition.

The 2021 Paddle Australia Canoe Ocean Racing Championships is open to all Ocean Ski age categories as per the ICF (International Canoe Federation) rules. Both the ICF racing rules and the AOCRA rules will be applied respectively to the outrigger canoe and ocean ski disciplines. This event will also serve as the backup selection race for the 2022 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships, to be held in Takapuna, New Zealand.

Phil Jones, President of PA said that: “Inviting outriggers and ocean skis to participate together in the same ocean racing competition is the beginning of a new direction to deliver more ocean racing pathways and opportunities to outriggers and ocean skis communities”.

Katherine Cole, President of AOCRA said the: “Leveraging both sports requirements for world class ocean racing competition ultimately benefits our respective paddling members in offering a fantastic 27 kms downwind course with certainty. AOCRA is delighted to offer our expertise in ocean racing paddling events, and with our strong capability in risk management practices we are well positioned to run a successful event in partnership with Paddle Australia”.

Dear Members,

This memo is to advise that the Australian Outrigger Canoe Association (AOCRA) have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2021 Sydney Harbour Challenge to 2022 due to the ongoing effects of COVID-19.

Due to the current situation facing the world and the ongoing level of uncertainty around international and interstate travel, AOCRA have made the decision to postpone in order to ensure the continued safety of our community.

AOCRA understands that all member and international communities have been hit hard by COVID and this is another blow in what has been a very difficult year. It is, however, our priority to look after the health, safety and wellbeing of our membership to the best of our ability and to ensure that AOCRA events are not only viable, but can be attended by all who wish to attend.

We thank our major sponsors for their ongoing support to date in organising this event and look forward to working closely together, along with AOCRA NSW to ensure 2022 is bigger and better than ever.

Yours sincerely,

Katherine Cole
President AOCRA
