Bunnings Sausage Sizzle

Last Sunday's Fundraising BBQ at Bunnings Parafield proved to be an amazing success. Despite the weather not instilling a lot of confidence early on, thankfully it got better as the day went on and the Sales flowed extremely well resulting in approximately 900 Sausages being sold along with a heap of drinks. I'm very pleased to advise once all expenses were deducted we produced a profit of over $2600-00. What an amazing result and one that everyone involved should feel proud of as it makes a massive difference to the club being able to remain profitable and able to keep the doors open.

I want to thank all of our members who gave up their time along with the following people who got involved to help cover the gaps in volunteers on the day. Alice Lattin (Mark's daughter), Monthana Woods (David's daughter), Damien McCall (Christine's family friend), Mary Poyner (Mark's wife) and David Weigl (Mark Poyner's son). There was a wonderful vibe evident all day despite there being times that were chaotic. There were lots of laughs and some amazing stories to be told, like the following.

With about 30 minutes to go till closing we had stopped cooking sausages for the day. A customer approached me and asked how many sausages did we have left. My answer was plenty thinking he was looking to make a normal order. He asked me again how many do you have as I want to buy them all. We proceeded to count the remaining sausages and I advised him there were 46. He said I'll take one for myself and buy the rest which we could then distribute to the remaining customers as his good deed for the day. I've seen plenty of customers make a small donation or tell us to keep the change over the years but certainly nothing like this. A $161.00 sale and an act from a customer by the name of Jayden that was so generous and a wonderful demonstration that there are many people in our community wanting to do something nice for other people.

We hope to be allocated further opportunities in the coming months, so thanks again must go to Bunnings for creating the opportunity and our team that made the day such a success.

BUNNINGS SAUSAGE SIZZLE FUNDRAISER

As you would be aware we have been allocated another Fundraising opportunity on Sunday 26th July 2026. These sausage sizzle events are such a great way for the club to raise significant funding that helps us to run the club through the year and I hope as many of you will make yourselves available as possible to help on the day.

As usual I have attached a Rostering Schedule for the entire day, breaking the overall time into blocks of 2 hour shifts. Can you please respond with the time/s you are available and I'll look to allocate to suit as many people as I can. We normally need 4 workers per shift along with either Christine or myself looking after sales and customer interactions.

If you are unable to help on the day but might be able to help with other jobs required before or after the event (preparing sausage packs, cutting/bagging onions and cleaning of the clubs utensils and other items), please let me know and i'll chat to you separately to see what might suit you.

BUNNINGS SAUSAGE SIZZLE FUNDRAISER - SAVE THE DATE.

The club has received an invitation to run a Fundraising Sausage Sizzle at the Parafield Bunnings site on Sunday 26th July 2026.

I wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible to ensure we have as many members/volunteers available to lend a hand on the day.

Further information and a time schedule for everyone to nominate a time/s available to help will be forwarded in due course.

BUNNINGS FUNDRAISER

Our Sausage Sizzle fundraiser last Sunday at Bunnings Parafield proved to be another great success.

Despite the weather threatening to impact the day our wonderful Club Members who gave up their time to help run the day, turned up with smiles on their faces and a great attitude to ensure we maximised the opportunity we were given to raise funds for the club.

I'm happy to report that we sold out of sausages about 20 minutes prior to closing time and with all the sales made (including drinks), the club will make a net profit of just over $2300-00. What a fantastic result and a good reward for the efforts invested by everyone.

There was a great spirit and camaraderie evident with all the groups that worked together which was great to see and also hear about. I want to make special mention to our outgoing President Gary for the effort he put in. He was involved in a lot of the preparation activities for the day as well as being at Bunnings all day and then coordinating pack up. Thanks so much Gary it is very much appreciated.

We look forward to more opportunities in coming months to run further fundraisers at Bunnings and hope for the same level of support.

SOCIAL BOWLS - SEASON WRAP

Last night saw the final night of Social Bowls for the 2025/2026 season.

We had a great turnout of 21, with a few of our other regulars not able to make it which demonstrates the growth in numbers we have seen throughout this year which has been really pleasing to see.

The weather was fantastic and the setting idyllic as it so often is and as the Scroungers Competition had been wound up the week before it was decided to play some traditional bowls with 2 games of 3 vs 3 & 1 game of 4 vs 4 producing some close results and the girls versus boys game a complete blowout (much to Andrew's disgust). Better luck next time mate. The time on the green was finished off with 3 games of Spider, with Dave F, Kath C & Kim C taking away the bottles of wine up for grabs.

A delicious supper was then enjoyed by all (thanks to the catering team for organising this) and the presentations followed to wrap up the season. David W was the overall points winner for the season with Mark P & Andrew M completing the podium. Well Done to all. Craig L took out the best average award based on the number of points achieved in the games played. Gift Vouchers provided by Cartridge World were awarded to mark the efforts of David, Mark and Craig.

There were a number of thank yous to the following for their efforts to ensure our Social Bowls is a success. Dave F & David W for their support in running each Tuesday night as well as keeping track of the scores for each week. Mike Bebb for his efforts in rolling the greens each week and the setting up of practice drills each week for everyone to utilise prior to the commencement of Scroungers. The Greens staff for ensuring the grass is cut each week and Christine for making the bar always available.

Biggest thankyou must go to Roger W for his overall coordination of the clubs Social Bowls program each week as well as his generosity with prizes and gifts provided not just last night but each week for the winners and encouragement awards. The program has certainly blossomed over the past couple of years and raises valuable funds for the club as well as a great fun night for all that choose to be involved and we thank you for that continued effort you provide.

SOCIAL BOWLS - FINAL NIGHT 31ST MARCH 2026

Quick notification to remind everyone that tomorrow night will be the final Tuesday night of Social Bowls (Nightowls/Scroungers).

The night's playing format will be slightly changed but start time/s remain unchanged.

Come along to see who takes out the trophy for the season and enjoy some supper with the entire crew.

SPONSORS DAY 2026

The club conducted its first Sponsor's Day at lunchtime today.

The day is designed to acknowledge and thank our Sponsors for their contribution toward the club which assists us in running the club that is so important to all members.

The Catering Team (Eva, Kath & Co) provided a delicious 2 course lunch for all that were in attendance. Following some refreshments a game of bowls along with a few fun bowls games were enjoyed by all making it an enjoyable day for everyone involved.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - SINGLES FINAL

Saturday afternoon saw the final matchup of the Singles competition to decide the Club Champion.

Brothers David and Ian Woods played an excellent match across 23 extremely tight ends. Despite falling behind early David steadied to even the match up at the completion of 18 ends. He then went on to win 4 of the last 5 ends to record a well deserved 21 to 14 win. Winning 15 of the 23 ends played clearly supports he was the best player on the green and a worthy champion for the 2025/2026 season.

Thanks go to David Franks who acted as match umpire/marker and our amazing greens keepers (Mick Sced, Mike Bebb & Co) for producing a surface that rolled beautifully and truely and was a pleasure to play on.

It was really good to see the number of spectators that came along to watch and support the players and thanks to the catering staff for the afternoon tea provided afterwards.

Another great competition where everyone that participated played their part and will hopefully nominate to have another go next year.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (A.G.M.)

The club's Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) is scheduled to be conducted on Sunday 26th April 2026, starting at 1.00pm.

With a number of the existing committee either finishing their term or deciding to step down, there is no better time for anyone interested in helping the club than now.

I personally will be continuing and encourage any of our members, new or old to consider taking on some responsibility to ensure our club survives. We can not leave it to just a few to make sure all of the behind the scenes work is taken care of and continue to build on a lot of the great work that has taken place to rebuild the stability of the club.

Should anyone want more information with regards to the role a committee member plays, I would be very happy to speak to you at any time in the next few weeks.

It's an important day for our club so please make every effort to attend and set the club up for another good year ahead.

WEDNESDAY DIVISION 4 GRAND FINAL

Despite giving it their best shot, our Wednesday Division 4 team were beaten by Para Hills II 57 to 44 in the Grand Final.

The weather was perfect, the surface and venue at Prospect/Broadview was excellent and some fantastic lawn bowls were played from both sides. 2 of our 3 rinks managed to narrowly win their rinks but unfortunately the third rink were outplayed on the day by a better foursome which proved to be the overall difference. The match was still in the balance late in the game but the opposition proved why they were top of the table all year and took out the pennant.

Unfortunately it wasn't third time lucky for our team but again they had a great year and given we are a small club the results they continue to produce is something we should all be proud of.

Congratulations once again to every player involved in the team throughout the year and who knows what might eventuate next year. I'm sure we will give it another shake again.
