It's been a big day. Not only was umpires bouncing the ball banned, the interchanged expanded from four to five, "Mad Monday" is now banned for the Cats. Woke Wednesday suggested as a replacement.

When we started following the game on a weekly basis there were two field umpires, 20 players selected in a match (two on the bench in your can believe that kids), and most stoppages started with a 'central' umpire bouncing the ball to a ruck contest.

Today the AFL announced the bounce will be abolished completely. So will the substitute - but instead of going back to 22 players in a match, we'll go to 23 and a formal interchange bench of five.
