5-time Speed Chess Champion Hikaru Nakamura won his first match of the 2023 event while managing to play almost all the possible first moves against Yu Yangyi.

The 2018 Fletcher Morrow Challenge will be held in Ballarat on Sunday 12th August at 1.00pm. This annual match between the Ballarat and Geelong Chess Club is open to all Geelong players.

The club welcomed Connor Liu, playing his first Grand Prix event, and the return of Geoff Davis from Ballarat.
Connor defended well in his game, to secure a draw against Mio Ristic. Likewise, Owen Courtis held Michael Sugrue to a draw despite losing a pawn early in the match.
