Hi everybody
I just thought I would show you a couple of side by side photos of the difference that led lights make. The customer had older style downlights with normal screw in halogen globes. I changed them over to 10 Watt L.E.D downlights and what a difference it made!
Here are the figures
A 50W halogen globe = 400 lumens (approx.)
A 10W L.E.D downlight = 800 lumens (approx.)
So the L.E.D downlights I use are about twice as bright and use a fifth of the power to run.
Also, the downlights that I use, spread the light throughout the room much better with a 90 degree spread of light.
I have uploaded two before and after photos, sorry about the glare in the photo of the new downlights but notice the extra light on the bench in the second photo.

I recently had a customer have someone try to break into their unit, luckily it was unsuccessful. They are in the unit at the back of the property and police said that the back units are the most likely to have invasion attempts. Its due to being harder to see from the road and are usually not well lit.
One simple thing you can do without the hassle and expense of a security system is to install a sensor light. They turn on when somebody walks by and flood the area with light, so would be criminals are much more visible. Victoria police suggest sensor lights as a deterrent for burglaries in their crime prevention documents.
I installed this double sensor light and now when anyone walks upto the unit, the light turns on and lights up the driveway, carpark and back corner of the house. The residents now feel a lot safer.

One of the best basic L.E.D downlights ive come across. now available in white or satin nickel.
plastic body with a frosted cover, they blend in perfectly to the ceiling. at 10 watts of power they produce about 800 lumens of light, compared to halogen globes which are 50 watts and produce about 400 lumens of light. this makes the led downlight about 10 times more efficient than halogen and so much prettier
