So many are on peptides right now. There’s one for recovery, one for skin, one for sleep, one for whatever the clinic is pushing this month, and they’ve become the shortcut of choice for people who want vitality without changing anything about how they actually live.

Meanwhile the thing that actually builds vitality is sitting in the fridge, and nobody wants to hear it because it isn’t exciting or sexy enough to post about.

The good old cold pressed. The nitrates that widen your blood vessels, the polyphenols that fight the inflammation quietly ageing you, the antioxidants across every colour in the glass, all arriving together in the ratios they grew in, which is something no vial has ever managed to replicate.

And here’s the best part. It grew in diverse and rich soil that was alive, a farmer put his hands on it, and then you put yours on it when you washed it and pressed it yourself. You know every single thing in that glass because you’re the one who put it there. Try getting that from a clinic or a peptide, that you don’t know how it was made, who made it and who knows what is really in it.

We offer DNA and blood work coaching to help you understand what your body really needs on a molecular level so you can really understand what to juice, what to eat and what to supplement if necessary. You have the power over your genes.

I ran a 2 hour 57 marathon.

Here is what actually worked for me this year:

Twenty weeks with no shortcuts, ordinary things done properly, over and over. Accumulated and progressed with my kms over many weeks.

Strength and fundamentals first. I lifted through the whole build, because runners who only run eventually break down, and the strong ones are the ones still holding pace when it falls apart at 33km mark and onwards.

I trained faster than I raced. My longest run was 30k, three weeks out, at 3:59/km. On the day the average race pace was 4:11, so goal pace felt like cruising when it counted. It still hurt a lot in the end.

I stopped guessing with supplements and nutrition. I keep coming back to my DNA report, checking again and again, and blood work which I tested. Dosed vitamin D and the rest to what my body actually needed, not what someone else told me to take. To be clear, that corrected what was missing. Last year I had that stress fracture in my shin in the left leg. It supported me this time with 45% more running. Bones were stronger and I could actually tolrate the load.

I treated recovery with respect. A weekly sauna and a magnesium pool. Rest days when needed. Not always but managed 90% of the time.

I fuelled properly. Looked for the most natural gel on the run. Maple syrup based with cold pressed lemon and salt, three ingredients, nothing new on race day and nothing my gut had not already handled on long runs.

And I ran my own race. I held my pace while people went out too hard around me. Some people cramped, threw up and more..

Sub-three was never a doubt in my mind. Your body will do what you prepare it to do.

That is the whole secret, and it is available to anyone willing to do the boring things well.

Natural, hard work, dedication, simple, practical, tested and prepared.

This post goes to my incredible wife Meghan Dowdell Meghan Brazh | Birth Chart & Counselling who was there with full support for the last 6months and my parents for amazing support and encouragement. Couldn’t have done it without them.

Thank you to Gold Coast Performance Centre for supporting the Gold Coast Performance Runners and providing the tent for us. Thank you to Tracey Te Ohaere-Fox for the 36km mark support and many others who were out there cheering on. Got my PB and happy to hit the Sub3 hours with 2hours 57min. Improvement from last year by 20min.

A client came to me saying that they were working with another trainer which was trying to sell them peptides and steroids. Completely disregarding what they actually needed, charged them thousands of dollars and just took them for granted.

We sat down and I outlined what we need to do going forward, including doing their DNA testing and bloodwork before we fully commit and decide on the action plan.

What came back after was very shocking, we found out that the person had very high levels of B6 and other lifestyle related factors going on that caused a lot of muscle weakness, tingling sensations including injuries and brain fog.

We looked at the diet and lifestyle factors, and we started to tweak things. We incorporated plyo work, static holds, mobility work and really basic and fun fundamental strength training.

Things started to shift and the client finally had answers. Client knew the issues and outcomes.

Start testing, not guessing.

Poor sleep quality: –2.4 to –4.7 years. A sleep-pattern study found people with all 5 low-risk sleep factors had 4.7 years greater life expectancy in men and 2.4 years in women compared with those with 0–1 factors.

High hs-CRP = ~75% higher all-cause mortality risk and about 2x cardiovascular mortality risk when comparing highest vs lowest hs-CRP categories.

In high-risk adults, intensive lifestyle intervention reduced diabetes incidence by 58% over 2.8 years; longer follow-up found lifestyle intervention extended diabetes-free time by about 3.5 years.

Recommended physical activity has been associated with about +3.4 years, double the recommendation with +4.2 years, and highest activity with +4.5 years life expectancy.

Stress: high allostatic load = ~22% higher all-cause mortality risk and 31% higher cardiovascular mortality risk.

low diet quality / nutrient gaps can shorten healthspan. Sustained shifts from unhealthy to healthier dietary patterns are associated with roughly 8–10 years greater life expectancy in modelling studies, but that is diet pattern, not one “nutrient deficiency” number.

These risks overlap. Poor sleep drives insulin resistance, insulin resistance drives inflammation, stress affects sleep, nutrient gaps affect all of them. That’s why the total number can vary drastically.

*A major study estimated that 5 low-risk lifestyle factors could prolong life expectancy at age 50 by 14.0 years for women and 12.2 years for men.

These are population level associations, not personal predictions.

The good news is most pathways are modifiable.

Sometimes I find myself shutting my mouth because there’s so much to say. I’ve been processing a lot about the medical industry lately. Over the past 25 years I’ve been pricked with a needle in my spine after being poisoned by forced medication, had my hip bones drilled after being dismissed for a haematoma, and had hepatitis B shots forced on me while I was being treated after a car accident.

The past six months have been one doctor after another for various reasons. One couldn’t even pronounce progesterone or tell me what it was for. Another couldn’t see that a client’s TSH was sitting elevated right there on the bloods, then asked me how I knew what I was looking at. You’re the doctor. I should be asking you why you don’t know this yourself. But I do know why. I understand exactly what sits behind that lack of knowledge and ignorance.

Since I started working with DNA, blood work and epigenetics, I’ve seen far more and understood it well enough to know what makes people slip, what trips them up, what stress does to the body and what food does to the body. The data was always there. Most people are just never taught to read it. I love helping people get to the bottom of things, helping them feel better and dig deeper into what really drives their health, how they function and how they perform. It took me over 25 years to get to this point, countless hours of study, research, experience, trials and more.
