That is the 22nd Australia Winter Elite Camp completed! Grateful and appreciative to all the players who made the effort to come - UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Singapore!

Thank you to host club Sanctuary Cove Golf and CC for being such a great venue, facility, and the management for creating such a great ambience - unrivaled anywhere else in the world IMO.

In Player Development, it’s so much about COMMUNITY, EXPERIENCE and ENVIRONMENT. The players learn off each other, challenge each other, and benefit from ‘vicarious experience’ - if you can do it so can I!

If you’re an elite player interested to learn from the ECGA Tour Curriculum, we have an 8 week ONLINE Performance Boot Camp starting in early April - DM if you would like us to send you the information sheet

Bunker play - my coach Denis Pugh once said when you’re doing blocked practice in the bunker, practice three distances - 10 yards, 20 yards and 30 yards and look to keep the technique and the amount of sand you take relatively consistent and just change club to change distance between LW, SW and GW.

Former Ryder Cup player, Oliver Wilson, delivered a great presentation in our online coaching conference this week on the ‘Tour Short Game’. One of his insights for bunker player was to feel as though you’re hitting a soft draw from quite a square neutral stance.

If you are an elite player who is motivated to score lower this season, next month we have an eight week online performance Boot Camp, where you can learn from the comfort of your own home through a weekly webinar with me. If you feel this is something that will help you please send a DM, and then we will send you the information brochure whoch gives all the information about this online coaching camp

What is the fastest way to ingrain a new swing move?

Here I am working with Hong Kong Tour Pro Leon D’Souza on improving his transition move.

It is very easy to break the swing into parts and then start making part swings or drill swings, and whilst there is a place for this sometimes, it’s akin to learning to ride a bike with stabilizers….. It helps in the short term, but probably slows down the learning process in the long-term.

instead, I’ve asked Leon to do a super slow motion back swing and to keep the swing as a whole. It’s definitely more challenging in the short term, but it will accelerate the process of change in the long term.

Next month, I will be starting an 8 week online performance Boot Camp for elite players. Spaces are very limited: If you think this could help you, please send a DM and we will send you the information sheet about the online camp

I recommend that elite and tour players have two specific warm-up routines- one the normal and then secondly a shortened version, because sometimes you’re not always able to do your usual warm-up, but it’s essential that every time you walk to the 1st tee that you feel you’re already on hole 3 of the round

Many moons ago I studied golf course architecture for 2 years, so I love playing new courses in different landscapes. Today this is undoubtedly one of the best, Arrowtown GC in Queenstown, New Zealand (annual membership - 500 pounds per year!)

In honor of Colin Morikawa’s win at Pebble Beach last week we are doing the ‘Morikawa’ drill.

Where Colin grew up and went for lessons with his still current coach Rick Sessinghaus, there was no driving range at his club. So they drive out on the buggy and practiced different situations on-course.

The game is 3 shots from 9 different situations ‘matchplay format’ with 2/3 a draw , 3/3 successful shots a win and 1/3 a loss.

One of the (very difficult) challenges of coaching, is finding ways to help players change movement patterns.

Feel is KING in the swing, and exploring and investigating creative images to develop FEELS that then help CHANGE movement or swing patterns.

Here I am with Leon and we are looking to make some major changes with his movement and sequencing on the downswing - using the IMAGE and FEEL of swinging a hammer against an object

I believe that when changing and progressing your swing, it’s really important to not make practice moves or swings over the ball.

Have a ‘feel’ or ‘work’ station set up near the ball, and then when you’re over the ball only make complete swings.

Cognitively it’s harder but it will accelerate the change you’re trying to make. Making part swings over the ball is akin to learning to ride a bike with stabilizers - in the long term it will slow down your learning
