You might be wondering what you can start this year that will truly complement your life.
Maybe this is the answer you’ve been searching for.
The year has only just begun, and already you may feel yourself slipping back into old habits and familiar routines, waking up, going through the same motions, feeling drained, and lacking something to look forward to. It’s comfortable, yes, but you know it’s not fulfilling.
After finishing school and completing military service, I was searching for something meaningful myself. I didn’t enjoy team sports because I like seeing the direct results of my own hard work, yet I still wanted to be part of a community, a family with shared goals and values. Inspired by The Karate Kid (1984), I started kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Later, a friend introduced me to the world of Kyokushin Karate. That’s when everything changed. Kyokushin became my way of life, my sport, my discipline, and the dojo became my second family. Even through life’s curveballs, this path has stayed with me.
For Your Child:
As a parent, you look at your little one and wonder: Will they be strong enough for this world? Will they be confident? Will they be bullied?
At home, maybe the disrespect is increasing, and the lack of discipline feels overwhelming. It’s tough to admit, but structure starts with us as parents. When difficult conversations happen, kids often escape to their room, put on their PS5 and headset, and disappear into their comfort zone, because they’ve figured out how to “win” the situation.
Kyokushin Karate can help restore focus, discipline, respect, and confidence. When your child starts and stays committed, you will see a change. Yes, they might enter the dojo with the same attitude you’ve seen at home, but through sweat, effort, and discipline, the disrespect fades. They learn to listen. They learn to grow.
And yes, around month two or three, many kids will say:
“Mom, Dad… I don’t want to do this anymore. I’d rather play PlayStation games.”
This is the moment where parenting matters. If it truly isn’t the sport for them, find another outlet or discipline. But don’t let them quit simply because it’s hard. You’re the parent, and this is just my advice, take it with a pinch of salt if need be.
For You, the Adult:
Every morning feels the same. You may be looking for something that helps with stress, something that gives you purpose and energy. Maybe you feel people walk over you at work. Maybe asking for a promotion or a pay rise feels too intimidating. Maybe you feel stuck.
Years of Kyokushin Karate shaped me into a stronger version of myself. It strengthened my family’s future, gave me fight, confidence, and the mindset to push through challenges. It filled me with positive energy and helped me take control of situations instead of avoiding them.
Your story might be different from mine, but confidence, focus, strength, and perseverance are universal. Through Kyokushin, you will feel those qualities grow.
For You, Near Retirement:
You’ve worked hard to build a dream of a peaceful retirement. But after a few years, after the trips, the excitement, the “honeymoon phase” you may find yourself sitting on the couch wondering, What now?
This is where you ask yourself:
Do I spend the rest of my life as a warrior or a gardener who becomes vulnerable to the effects of aging?
There is an old saying by Lao Tzu:
“It’s better to be a warrior in a garden of peace than a gardener in a war.”
As you age, staying physically and mentally strong becomes essential. Kyokushin Karate helps keep your body active, your mind sharp, and your spirit alive.
I’ve recently opened my own Kyokushin Karate Dojo, and if you or your child has ever thought about giving martial arts a try, this is the perfect time to start. Come join me on Monday and Wednesday for a free trial session with absolutely no obligation to join.
I look forward to meeting you, guiding you, and being part of your martial arts journey.
It all starts, and ends with Osu!! 🥋🔥
