Congratulation to our very own Queen of the marathon 34km Derwent River Big Swim Brenda Norman who again has smashed some DRBS records. Brenda Swam from New Norfolk Bridge to the Iron Pot Lighthouse at the entrance to the Derwent River 60km in an very very slick time of 15hrs 19min 00sec, what a huge effort definitely a record. And they keep coming, another record for Brenda swimming a total of 6 times on the Derwent River clocking up some 204kms over almost exactly 2years to date, what a huge achievement in itself.
Brenda Norman is no stranger to long distance swimming with some big marathon swims to her name , English Channel, Catalina Channel, Australian Triple Crown recipient just to name a few.
As I am trying to keep this post short, I will try to be a brief as I can. Brenda’s aim on the 26th was going to be the first swimmer to complete the 4bridgetoironpot swim – 60km from New Norfolk Bridge south of Hobart to the Iron pot Lighthouse at the mouth of the Derwent River.
Brenda on the 26th of January started her swim at the New Norfolk Bridge at 10:20pm with some lovely 20c water and ambient air temperature 14c with a slight NE wind and darkness . Brenda Passed under the Tasman Bridge on the 27th January at 0700am in a great time of 8hrs 40min. Brenda swam fown the Derwent making her way to South Arm up the coast towards Opossum Bay and then onto the end at the Iron Pot Light House .
Brenda was Piloted by Cameron Stewart from Sea Rescue Tasmania and Clinton for his support of Brenda on his Jet ski and observing Brenda all the way . Brenda’s team Richard and Sue Jones and Brenda’s parents Ray and Beverly all assisted with the on-boat activities and feeding. By the look of the posts Brenda packed meals for everyone, very generous. Now I can’t forget to mention Brenda’s dog Pippa cheering Brenda all the way.
Brenda is raising money for her charity Channel 4 Change which seeking to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and establish initiatives for individuals who may be suffering.

Tonight, I will be attempting another marathon swim; New Norfolk to Iron Pot. It is a 60km swim starting in the Derwent River and finishing in the ocean. The swim has been attempted but no one has been successful. The challenges are the changing tides, winds and temperatures.
My swim will start today (26 January) at 10pm. If you wish to follow my progress updates will be provided on this page. Below is a link to my tracker
