Apologies everyone — basketball is not on tonight. 🏀

Keep an eye on the page for some pop-up social games over the next three weeks.

Our OPENS & JUNIORS 5v5 starts soon! The competition is for Opens (mixed 15+) as well as Junior mixed (12-17), Junior Girls (10-17) and Junior Boys (10-13), also due to kick off in Term 4. Registrations are open now!

WHAT A DAY FOR INGHAM BASKETBALL. 🏀

Today gave us two very different reasons to be excited about where basketball in Ingham is heading.

A huge congratulations to Izaiah Turner, Hayden O’Brien and Josh Shannon, who won their Townsville Basketball Grand Final today. Three Ingham players getting it done on a bigger stage is a massive achievement, and something they should be extremely proud of.

At the same time, we had a fantastic She Hoops clinic in Ingham, giving our girls the opportunity to get on court, learn, have fun and see what basketball can offer them. Seeing so many girls involved today was just as exciting, because building a strong pathway for girls and women in Ingham is a massive part of where we want this association to go.

Today really showed both sides of the future we are trying to build — local players succeeding in competition, while at the same time creating more opportunities for new players to get involved.

And there is plenty more coming.

🏀 5v5 basketball is coming to Sunday afternoons — registrations are opening through Basketball Connect, so get registered and start getting your teams together.

We’re also working toward an after-school program for women, girls and primary-school-aged boys, with a very simple focus: just get involved. You don’t need experience, you don’t need to already be a basketball player — come along, learn, play and enjoy it.

Congratulations again to Izaiah, Hayden and Josh, and a massive thank you to everyone who made today’s She Hoops clinic such a success.

The future of basketball in Ingham is looking seriously strong. 🏀

INGHAM, SHE HOOPS IS COMING!

This Sunday we’re welcoming Australian Opals Courtney Woods and Alicia Froling to Ingham for a FREE She Hoops basketball clinic as part of the WNBL Townsville Tip Off.

Girls aged 6–17 years will get the chance to hit the court, learn new skills and spend 90 minutes with two incredible Australian basketballers.

SHE HOOPS IS COMING BACK TO INGHAM!

Ingham Basketball is incredibly excited to welcome She Hoops to Ingham this Sunday, 13 September, for a FREE girls basketball clinic at the ISHS Auditorium.

Even better, the clinic will be facilitated by Courtney Woods — She Hoops Program Lead, Australian Opal, Townsville Fire captain, 2026 NBL1 North Women’s MVP and winner of the Rachael Sporn Medal as the WNBL26 Championship Series MVP. Courtney helped lead Townsville to the WNBL Championship earlier this year, including an incredible 28-point, 8-rebound, 7-assist performance in the title-clinching game.

Courtney is now working with She Hoops and Basketball Australia to help inspire the next generation of girls to get involved in basketball, build their skills and see where the game can take them.

This visit also comes just days before the WNBL Townsville Tip Off, with all nine WNBL clubs coming together at Townsville Stadium from 17–20 September for the league’s major pre-season event. The tournament opens with a huge rematch between reigning champions Townsville Fire and Perth Lynx. Entry is free for our Ingham kids!!

For our girls in Ingham, this is an awesome opportunity to learn directly from one of the best players in Australian basketball — right here at home.

It started with something pretty simple.

There was nowhere in Ingham where I could just go and shoot a basketball. The only court I had access to was at the school where I worked. After a hard day, I wanted somewhere to shoot around and clear my head.

That’s also where Izaiah Turner, one of my students, kept getting onto me about doing something with basketball in Ingham. He wanted somewhere to play. Somewhere local. Somewhere kids could actually access.

So I got the ball rolling.

But the reason Ingham Basketball is still here, growing, travelling and now winning games is because of people like Hayden O'Brien and Kira Turner.

Hayden has been there from the beginning and has become the face of Ingham Basketball. He has given up countless hours, weekends and so much of his own time to coach, organise, support players and keep things moving. He has gone well beyond what anyone could reasonably expect from a volunteer.

Kira is the engine behind the scenes. She brings the consistency, organisation and follow-through that keeps the association functioning day to day. A lot of what she does isn’t seen publicly, but without that work, none of this happens.

Neither of them is paid. None of us are.

They do it because they love basketball, they care about the kids, and they care about this community.

Three years on, we now have an incorporated association, representative teams travelling across North Queensland, plans for a court, and now Ingham Basketball has its first ever win.

That win belongs to a lot of people, but it means even more knowing Hayden and Kira were there from the very start and are still here, doing the work, years later.

A massive thank you to both of them. Ingham Basketball would not be what it is without them.
