Roccomotive
Due to COVID-19, all 2020 Rotax Pro Tour rounds were cancelled.
Roccomotive is an independent automotive design and fabrication consultancy, specialising in 3D printing, 3D scanning, CAD design, and prototyping for the performance and aftermarket industries. After racing in the AKC in 2017, Marcello spent 2018 and 2019 competing in the Sparco Rotax Pro Tour, switching from the TaG 125 class to the two-speed DD2 class for the last two rounds in 2019. Sunday Side Project - custom boost gauge
After not being able to find an after market boost gauge I liked, I decided to see if I could have AI help me build one.
Goal is to create something that is similar to the digital dash in the car, and because electronics and wiring aren’t my strong suit, I’m using chat GPT to do the heavy lifting.
So far so good with preliminary wiring and coding all working. Not to fine tune slightly and work out how to assemble it as a proper electronic circuit.
Looking for an airbox for your car?
Well here is how the process starts to have a custom air box designed and manufactured through Roccomotive.
This is the first step. 3D scanning! We have the car in for a few hours to remove exisiting systems to scan. We take into consideration components we need to incorporate and adapt into with our new design
From here it is processed into a mesh, then import to cad for step 2, which is design.
A quick behind-the-scenes look at scanning the Mk3 Supra’s front and rear guards for a customer request.
I go through part of the process using the Einstar Vega, including why scanning dots are so important for maintaining tracking and getting accurate scan data.
It might seem simple, but good scans are what make accurate custom parts possible from aero pieces to reverse-engineered OEM replacements.
Modern tools are making custom automotive design more accessible than ever.

Heat soak kills performance… especially on track.
On long sessions, engine bay temps climb fast and without proper airflow, your intake is just pulling in hot, power-robbing air.
That’s where a proper cold air intake and sealed airbox make the difference. By isolating the filter and feeding it cooler air from outside the engine bay, you get more consistent temps, better power, and improved reliability lap after lap.
This R34 GTT is now set up to handle the heat, not just look the part.
Would you run a proper airbox setup for track use, or stick with an open pod?
Oven mitts are a must with freshly baked prints!

Shop update - there is a bit of stuff moving along, we have big jobs such as air boxes, down to smaller trim pieces both custom and replicated.
We will have some cool part fitments coming up in the next week, so keep tuned!
As always, reach out if you require custom or replicated automotive parts. From design to manufacture all in house!

Last weekend we were at 2 Days of Thunder with Wilson Team Racing’s Porsche Gt3
Lots of good results with fast times and car improvements. Unfortunately involved in contact on the first lap but great drive though the enduro to bring back some spots and a chunk of time
Big weekend at the 2-days of Thunder meeting
Car ran faultlessly as usual with only drama being a trip to the gravel trap on Friday that gave Gibb and Marcello some work to do Friday arvo.
Qualifying went well and we were third overall and first in class with a new PB as well.
2 races Saturday went with out any issue and after a race long battle with Wayne Hennig in his new 992 we just held him off third overall and another class win.
Sunday was a one off 45 minute race that got shortened to 35 minutes due to a crash and recovery in the race before ours.
This race did not go to plan with Wayne turning in early into the first turn off the start. he thought I was not there but I could not avoid him and tipped him into a spin and sustained damage to our left front wheel that needed to be changed in a pit stop.
From there we were 2 laps down but still faster than our main class rival with bent steering. we ended up 4th in class in this race that lost us the class victory and as it turns out the overall weekend win.
The car is headed for a rest now and will do a few public displays for Bridge FM starting next week and the fun run on Sunday for an outside broadcast for 99.7 Bridge FM. we are there raising funds for the Redcliffe Hospital Auxillary. so if you are around Pelican Park on the 18th of June drop by and say hi.....
Big thanks again to Gibb Haskins and Marcello Surace for all there help over the meeting
With the car all dressed in a fantastic new look, we are one week from Rd1 of the first Australian Formula Open Championship. Really looking forward to seeing the new livery out on track and getting back into the racing season with Gilmour Racing Formula 3
