Block Party Platter (The "Tetris" Plate)
This recipe is all about assembly, presentation, and making mealtime a game. We've taken the colorful blocks and assigned them edible identities. The "blocks" listed are suggestions—the game is to use what you have and organize them perfectly on your plate.
Difficulty: Level 1 (Easy)
Prep time: 30 minutes
Game time (Assembly): 10 minutes.
Phase 1: Gathering the Polyominos (Ingredients)
To recreate the full palette. you'll need ingredients in specific colors. These are suggestions based on the visual blocks.
For the Base (The Perfect Clear).
* The Plate: You must have a dark blue or black square plate with a white grid pattern etched on it. This is your game board. (A standard black square plate works if you skip the grid, but the goal is accuracy!).
For the "T" Blocks (The Teal/Green Base Pieces)
These form the bottom layer.
* Ingredients: Avocado and Mint (or Basil).
* Substitution: Edamame puree, green pea mash, or finely chopped spinach mix.
For the "L" Blocks (The Purple Stack)
These stack high on the left.
* Ingredients: Roasted Purple Sweet Potatoes (ube), cut into cubes.
* Substitution: Beets, or standard sweet potatoes dyed lightly with purple cabbage juice.
For the "S" Blocks (The Green Top Corners)
These cap the green/purple stacks.
* Ingredients: Lightly steamed Broccoli Florets, trimmed into small, tight clusters.
* Substitution: Green beans cut to length.
For the "I" Blocks (The Orange Rows)
These fill the long horizontal lines.
* Ingredients: Fresh Salmon (Sushi Grade, cubed) and Roasted Carrots (cubed).
* Substitution: Sweet potato cubes, or orange bell peppers.
For the "O" Blocks (The Red Rows)
These line up next to the orange.
* Ingredients: Diced Red Bell Peppers (roasted or raw).
* Substitution: Cherry tomatoes, halved, or cubed watermelon.
For the "Z" Blocks (The Yellow Center)
These form the core of the pattern.
* Ingredients: Cooked Sweet Corn Kernels (whole or slightly crushed for shape).
* Substitution: Yellow squash cubes.
For the "J" Blocks (The White Base and Accent)
These accent the red rows.
* Ingredients: Cubed White Sushi Rice (slightly sticky) and White Tofu cubes.
* Substitution: Cauliflower florets.
For the Bonus Piece (The Purple-Blue Top)
This sits high on the right.
* Ingredients: Diced Red Cabbage (steamed slightly to bring out the blue/purple color).
For the 'Next Queue' Bonus Plate
* Ingredients: A few roasted potatoes and more green herb mix (e.g., green pea mash).
Required Supplies.
* Toothpicks (to secure the 'T' and 'L' stacks)
* Square metal food molds/cutters (optional, but helpful for precision)
Phase 2: Game Logic (Preparation)
* Prep the Plate: Place your dark grid plate on a clean wooden surface. Ensure the grid lines are visible and straight.
* Cook and Shape:
* Purple/Orange/Red: Cut your sweet potatoes, carrots, peppers, and rice into uniform, small cubes. Use the square food mold for consistency. Roast or steam the purple sweet potato and carrots until tender but still firm enough to hold their shape. Dice the raw peppers and salmon.
* Green: Blend the avocado and mint into a very thick, moldable spread. Trim the broccoli.
* White: Prepare the sticky sushi rice and press it firmly into square molds. Cube the tofu.
* Yellow: Drain the sweet corn.
* The "Next" Plate: On the tiny separate ceramic dish, add a few roasted potatoes and a neat dollop of your green herb mash, making sure the word "Next" is visible.
Phase 3: Assembly (The Drop Phase)
Reference image constantly during this step.
* Build the Foundation: Starting at the bottom-left of the main plate, assemble a large "T" shape using the thick avocado-mint mixture. Press it down so it holds. (If you use the puree/mash substitution, use a mold).
* Stack the Tall Pieces (The Left Side): Directly to the right of the Avocado "T," build a tower of your cubed Purple Sweet Potatoes. Secure the stack internally with two toothpicks pushed up through the center. This is your tall "L" piece block.
* Cap the Stack: Gently place a tight cluster of Broccoli Florets on the very top-center of the purple sweet potato tower.
* Create the Base Rows: At the bottom-right of the plate, create alternating horizontal rows of cubed Sushi Rice (white) and cubed Red Bell Peppers (red). Keep these very compact.
* Assemble the Long "I" Rows: Next, create long horizontal lines above the red/white base. Use cubed Salmon and cubed Carrots to form distinct rows of Orange. Ensure they align with the grid.
* Fill the Center: Now that the surrounding rows are built, fill the central gaps with neat rows of Sweet Corn Kernels (yellow). These should sit tightly against the orange, red, and purple blocks.
* Add the Final Accent: In the remaining top-right corner, create a blocky shape using the finely diced Red Cabbage to capture that final purple-blue hue.
* Position the Next Queue: Place the small "Next" dish above the main assembly, aligning it with the top-right edge.
* Serve: Add your specific fork (image_2.png's fork has a square design) and a glass of water.
Phase 4: Scoring (Eating)
Clear the board one colorful "line" at a time!
