π THOMSEN RACING | 2025/26 SEASON WRAP-UP π
And just like that, another season of karting is done! What a year it has been for Layne & Braxtyn. β€οΈπ
This season we gave the boys every opportunity possible to get as much track time as we could, to continue developing their driving, while also giving Mitch the opportunity to learn more about kart set-up and the different tracks. Looking back, it has certainly paid off in the results!
π SUNSTATE SPEEDWAY KART CLUB
We competed in 7/7 race meetings, starting the season at Mick Doohan Raceway before transitioning over to Lockyer Valley Speedway, Gatton, to finish the season.
Some of the key events included the Queensland Title at Nudgee, the Final Hurrah and the Presidentβs Cup at Gatton.
End of Season Points -
π Layne β 1st Sub Juniors
π Braxtyn β 1st Juniors
π₯ Braxtyn β 3rd Junior Standards
π MARYBOROUGH SPEEDWAY KARTS
We managed to compete at 5/5 meetings, with the other three unfortunately falling victim to wet weather.
Some pretty special meetings were held throughout the season, including the Margaret Memorial, Thomsen Livestock & Contracting Junior Stampede and Clarke Motorsport Nationals.
End of Season Points -
π Layne β 1st Sub Juniors
π Braxtyn β 1st Juniors
π Braxtyn β 1st Junior Standards
π BUNDABERG SPEEDWAY KARTS
Weather certainly played its part here too, with two meetings cancelled due to wet weather. But we managed to finish the season with a fantastic two-day event in June, rounding out the Twin Track Series before moving into the Sugar Coast Clash 20/20.
What a way to finish the season! π
π VICTORIAN & AUSTRALIAN TITLES β MILDURA VIC
April saw us pack up and travel approximately 1,800km and 19.5 hours from home to Mildura for the Victorian and Australian Titles.
Both boys drove extremely well and came away with some fantastic results.
Victorian results -
π Layne β V1 / Victorian Title
π₯ Braxtyn β 3rd Juniors
π
Braxtyn β 4th Junior Standards
The boys then stayed on in Victoria for two weeks, enjoying some much-needed holiday time with Nan & Pop while Mum & Dad flew home to get back to work in between! ποΈ
The Australian Titles, unfortunately, brought one of the toughest moments of our season. Layne had been absolutely dominant all weekend and crossed the finish line as AUS 1, only to have the result taken away following a technical issue involving a broken fin/cover, resulting in a disqualification and 12-month suspension.
It was an incredibly difficult experience, especially after everything that had gone into the weekend, but we will keep our heads held high and refuse to let one decision define our season or Layneβs love of racing. π
Braxtyn has a very competitive field of racers making it one of the best racing of the days being so close, competitive and clean!
Australian Results -
4th Braxtyn - Juniors
5th Braxtyn - Junior Standards
β€οΈ BUT THE TROPHIES ARENβT WHAT MATTER MOSTβ¦
When we started this season, the focus was on giving the boys as much opportunity as possible to improve, learn and develop.
But reflecting on the year, weβve realised the real wins arenβt hanging on the trophy shelf.
Itβs the good times.
Itβs the friendships the kids have made β and the friendships us parents have made along the way.
Itβs cheering each other on, celebrating each otherβs wins, showing good sportsmanship and being there when things donβt go your way.
Itβs the weekends away, the holidays, the camping, the laughs, the late nights, the early mornings and all the adventures in between.
Most importantly, itβs the memories we are creating together β the ones the boys will be able to look back on years from now and talk about for the rest of their lives. β€οΈ
π₯ 2026/27 β A LITTLE DIFFERENT π₯
Going into the 2026/27 season, weβre going to take a little step back. Layne is still out for most of this season but Braxtyn will be running both classes when possible!
Weβre going to slow things down, enjoy the fun, spend more time with our karting family and head to the meetings we can make when they fit around our other commitments.
We have also made the decision not to travel down to Victoria for the Victorian or Australian Titles this season!
Instead, weβll stay closer to home, support our local clubs where we can and, most importantly, enjoy the ride.
A massive thank you to every club, committee member, official, volunteer, sponsor, family and friend who has been part of our season.
And to our karting family β thank you for the laughs, the support, the encouragement and the memories. β€οΈ
