IG: rose_black_online_coach I have been an athlete all of my life. I was a state level sprinter and discuss thrower.

I began competitive swimming at the age of 3 in my local swimming club! I went on to represent my region and state throughout school and competed almost every weekend. As an adult, I returned to swimming in 2008 and competed at the World Masters Games in Sydney 2009. I took home 2 gold, 3 silver and one bronze medal. In 2010 I competed in the Masters Pan Pacific Games bringing home 6 gold and 1 silver and achieving four Personal Best times. I have always maintained an athletic level of fitness; and have trained consistently because I enjoy it. I love this lifestyle; being fit and healthy helps with every aspect of my life- my work; my stress levels and my personal relationships. I began weight training only in February this year. I was a total subscriber to that common myth- 'weights makes girls big'. Due to my swimming background; I always felt 'big' anyway. I have broad swimming shoulders; and I felt like I had big legs as well. I always felt a little out of proportion- my lower body feeling bigger than my top. I decided in 2012 after seeing some competitors in a bodybuilding competition that I needed to change my approach to training. I was jogging huge km's every week and still feeling as though my problem areas were there. So began my love affair with weight training. I have researched and researched and continued to experiment over the past 12 months to see what my body responds to and what gives me the best results. I have competed in four Figure/Physique comps this year and have managed to place at each show. My best results being 1st in three categories at the INBA City Nationals in June; and a 2nd and 4th placing at the INBA Australian Championships in October. I hope that this page might help people on their own journey to a fitter lifestyle. I will be sharing diet tips; training tips and workouts that have worked for me.

People often think progress happens in the gym — but recovery is just as much a part of the process. Muscles grow when you rest, minds reset when you pause, and perspective comes when you finally slow down long enough to breathe. I've been really enjoying finally letting go a little and doing just that.

Even after years of discipline, I’m still learning that strength isn’t just physical — it’s also knowing when to rest without guilt. Because real growth happens when you listen to your body, not when you ignore it.

As Anne Lamott once said, “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes — including you.”

Some weeks test you in ways you never expect. Between health setbacks and sleepless nights worrying about little Archie, it’s easy to forget that even the smallest glimmer of light can still find its way in. ☀️

But light always returns — in morning air, kind words, or the quiet strength that keeps you standing tall. The sun doesn’t rush; it simply rises.

Here’s to healing, to love that never leaves, and to believing that brighter days are already on their way. 🌤️
