It was a successful day yesterday for Clayton Sports Club with these sides booking their place in the Victorian State Finals after taking out the Sandbelt Triples Championship regional title yesterday at Chadstone. Livestream replays of the Men's final and Women's semifinal were posted here yesterday.
The Women's Sandbelt Triples Champions for 2026 are Mel Allen (Mentone) along with Clayton's Kelly McKerihen and Lisa Phillips. All are in great touch. A quality side.
Our Men's Sandbelt Triples Champions are the strong line-up of Clayton's Neil Devlin, Brad Martin and Ali Forsyth.
These sides should both be really confident at State level. I am sure there will be many teams hoping to avoid drawing them first round anyway!!

Another great game here.
The semifinal of the Sandbelt Women's Triples.

Great job Sandbelt team!
Thanks also to these top-class players for a great watch.

Don't let the rain stop you bowling this Friday!
Clayton Sports Club are only running the Monday's Social Pairs during the upcoming Pennant season instead of the successful Monday and Friday options we have been running.
However, we have received interest for this Friday due to the wet forecast and will be running this Friday for those keen.
Text 0435 583 284 to get a game for 10:30am under the Clayton Cobra Dome. Spots available for Monday too!!!

Clayton Sports have had a busy long weekend! The Grand Final Eve tournament on Friday was a great day, and now we have completed our first Club Championships for the year with the Club Drawn Triples completed yesterday and the Two Bowl Singles Final completed just now.

The Club Drawn Triples was played as a Round Robin this year and in the final round, Aaron Burke, playing with Don Culliver and Linda Fennell remained undefeated and simply had to win or hold on to a 17-shot margin for this year's title. Luke Piper's side (with Phil Hulbert and Stan Fennell) was in with a mathematical chance with their only loss to Aaron Burke in the earlier rounds, but as it turned out, Burkey, Linda and Don held on for an undefeated run to take it out this year. Congratulations and well played.

The Two Bowl Singles Finals were played this morning with the winners of 6 previously played sections dividing into two sections of 3 and the winners of those sections playing the final.
Our final six were:
Section 1 - Aaron Van Haaften, Don Culliver and Charlie Agius.
Section 2 - Neil Devlin, Calvin Chase and Luke Piper.

Some brilliant games were played in these finals' sections. Devs and Pipes played a world class two bowl exhibition with Pipes claiming the win 11-10. The other notable clash was Aaron Van Haaften coming back from a 1-8 deficit to narrowly go down to Charlie Agius who played a crafty conversion with his last bowl to make the final against Luke Piper who was looking sharp. Charlie sprung out of the blocks in the final though, and despite Pipes slotting the jack in the ditch with what looked like a turning point, Charlie just kept doing Charlie things and shook Pipes hand with an 11-3 win to go back to back. Amazing Charlie! Tenacity to burn.

The photos display Luke Piper (left) and Charlie Agius and the Club Drawn Triples Champions being Don Culliver, Aaron Burke and Linda Fennell.

Great bowls everyone. Warming into the season nicely.

Clayton Cobra Dome's Grand Final Eve Medley Fours was run and won with Adam Pullin and his wingman Damien Gardiner from Chadstone combining with Clayton's Stewart Taylor and Paul Ryan to be the only unbeaten side on the day and share the $900 first prize.
The Fours Medley sees teams play one game of fours then two players have lunch and a rest while the other two play a pairs game. The third game sees the two players who rested now play pairs while the other two have lunch. The final fourth game is back to fours to finish off the day.
This was the first time we have used this Fours Medley concept at Clayton. Teams were to be entered with only two Division 1 or above players per team which ensures competitive games and sees knowledge and experience shared.

Second place and $600 went to Clayton's Michael Wilson, Aidan Zittersteijn, Trish Wilson and Tony Lee who had a 12 all draw in their first game but went on for 3.5 wins + 15

John Grundy's Coatesville side with Neale Muller, Mick Doherty and Greg Wallace had a very healthy 30 shot margin with their 3 wins to claim third prize and $300.
Stan Fennell, Marg Mills, Layla Clegg and Chris Clegg had a great day also for 4th and $180.

The stars of the day were undoubtedly the Chadstone/Clayton combination.

Thanks so much to all who enjoyed the day and the members who chipped in and helped out so much on the day.
