Social Bowls

On Wednesday we had a Mixed Fours semi-final plus 8 games of Triples and winners were decided by Lucky Rinks. First place went to Olwyn Mayer, Andy Thompson and Greg Riley (skip) who led 10 to 7 after 11 ends before losing the lead until they got back to all square, 14 all, on end 19 then picked up 2 shots on the last end to take their match 16 to 14 against Pat Barklem, Andrew Thomas and Lou Thomas (skip). Jock Commins, Ray Gale and Greg Maloney (skip) led 12 to 6 after 10 ends and increased the tempo to win their game 22 to 11 against Keith Pickett, Cindy Newell and Terry Lewis (skip).

On Saturday we had a good turnout for our Pairs Day. Winners, decided by Lucky Rink, were Jim Constan and Peter Jones (skip) who were in fine form to lead all the way for a 33 to 9 win against Darrel Goodridge and Mick Cavic (skip).

On Sunday we had 2 rinks of Triples. Winners, decided by Highest Winning Score, were Jan Rankin, Christine Cockerell and Pat Barklem (skip) who raced out to a 12 to 3 lead after 7 ends and maintained that momentum for a 22 to 9 win against Peter Hawker, Olwyn Mayer and Ross Richardson (skip). Amanda Simpson, Rob Simpson and Jan/Bruce Rapkins (skip) were all playing top bowls as they led 11 to 4 after 9 ends and continued that form for a 20 to 10 win against Enid Brooker, Aurelia Robinson and Peter Tinson (skip). We welcomed a new bowler today, Jan Rankin came along and enjoyed a great afternoon, the first of many we hope, Jan.

Mixed Fours

In the Final of the Mixed Fours Russell Burke, Cindy Newell, Keith Pickett and Ray Gale (skip) played Sue Sansom, Kaye Whiffen, Warren Bender and John Downie (skip) and in a tight first half Ray and his team led 8 to 5 after 9 ends and 10 to 9 after 12 ends. They picked up a 5 on end 13 to move out to a 15 to 9 lead. John and his, Sunday Bowlers team, tried valiantly but couldn’t make up the deficit, squaring the remaining ends as Ray and his team went on for a good 18 to 12 win. Congratulations to Russell, Cindy, Keith and Ray on winning the match to become the Club Mixed Fours Champions, well done.

Open Major Singles Championship

There were 3 matches played on Sunday. Mick Cavic played Peter Hiscox and Mick was on song early to lead 18 to 5 after 13 ends. In the second half Peter picked up the next 4 ends but Mick kept his form to keep any losses to a single shot. The remaining ends were very close and Mick moved out again to win the match 25 to 12. Mark Bartrop played Peter Dillon and Bart started well to set up a 15 to 4 margin after 13 ends. Peter came back, winning 5 of the next 6 ends, to trail 14 to 16 but then Bart stepped up to take the next 3 ends to extend his lead to 23 to 14. Bart then sealed the match, 25 to 18, after 26 ends. Peter Murton played Jock Commins and this was an epic match where Peter led early until the match was squared 9 all, after 12 ends. Jock took the lead, 12 to 10 after 14 ends and kept a narrow lead until the match was all square at 20 all after 25 ends. Jock moved out to a 23 to 21 lead after 27 ends but Peter came back and took the next 3 thrilling ends to take the match 25 to 23.

Social Bowls

On Tuesday we had a game of Triples and a game of Pairs and winners were decided by Lucky Rink. First place went to Sue Sansom and John Scott (skip) who led 9 to 3 after 10 ends and then continued with their good form to win their match 19 to 6 against Suzanne Dainer and Jenny Coulson (skip). Merrie Downie, Christine Cockerell and Peter Tinson (skip) led 10 to 4 after 7 ends and kept going for a 16 to 8 win against Treat Dufty, Kaye Whiffen and Jan Rapkins (skip). Merrie Downie backed up her good form by having the first resting toucher at 10.32. Well done Merrie. Peter Tinson won the raffle and Sandra Breust took second prize.
Jan Rapkins will celebrate her birthday on Friday 11 September. Congratulations Jan, have a great day.

Mixed Fours

In the first semi-final of the Mixed Fours Russell Burke, Cindy Newell, Keith Pickett and Ray Gale (skip) played Rhys Budnick, Margie Naylor, Peter Murton and Les Waldock (skip) and after getting away to an 11 to 0 start after 4 ends Ray and his team then got out to a 17 to 5 lead after 11 ends. Les and his team came back well to take the next 4 ends to trail 13 to 17 but Ray, Keith, Cindy and Russell prevailed to win the match 19 to 14.

In the second semi-final Jenny Coulson, Peter Dillon, Rob Coulson and Greg Ryan (skip) played Sue Sansom, Kaye Whiffen, Warren Bender and John Downie (skip). John and his team started well to lead 11 to 1 after 6 ends and in a good burst they extended that lead to 24 to 5 after 12 ends. John’s team kept the momentum going to win their match 28 to 8.

The final will be played this Sunday commencing at 11.00am.

Social Bowls

On Wednesday we had 3 Mixed Fours games as well as a full Green of Triples. Winners, decided by Lowest Winning Score, were Baxter Smith, Darrel Goodridge and Dennis Maggs (skip) who led 10 to 8 after 13 ends then 12 all after 16 ends, 13 all after 18 ends and down 13 to 14 after 19 ends. In a tight final end they picked up 2 shots for a convincing 15 to 14 win against Scott Fell, Ross Harris and Les Waldock (skip). Second place went to Sue Waldock, John Spees and Peter Murton (skip) who were in fine form to lead 14 to 6 after 12 ends and then shared ends in the second half to win their match 19 to 15 against Scott Kennedy, Tony Cobcroft and Peter Pickett (skip).

On Saturday we battled the elements as well as opponents and played 2 games of 10 ends with winners, decided by 2 game winners with the Highest Winning Margin. First place went to Russell Burke and Keith Pickett (skip) with 2 wins and a +5 margin.

On Sunday we celebrated Father’s Day and we had 4 rinks of Triples. First place, decided by Lowest Winning Score, were Lee Lewis, Olwyn Mayer and Bruce Rapkins (skip) who led 7 to 6 after 9 ends and 15 to 7 after 16 ends before winning 15 all, ends up, against Aurelia Robinson, Kaye Whiffen and Les Waldock (skip). Second place went to Pat Barklem, Judy Moore and Terry Lewis (skip) who had a good game where they led 9 to 3 after 9 ends and had a much closer second half to win their match 18 to 10, against Sue Sansom, Christine Cockerell and Cindy Newell (skip). Sue Waldock, Darrel Goodridge and Peter Tinson (skip) were on point throughout for a 20 to 9 win against Peter Hawker, Jan Rapkins and Jean Vos (skip). Enid Brooker, Pieter Vos and Peter Jones (skip) were all square early before they put in a winning burst to take their match 26 to 11 against Rob and Jenny McIntyre, Ross Richardson and Rodney Turner (skip).

The Narooma Bowls Club will have their AGM starting at 09.00 on the 9th of September. We will play bowls after the meeting followed by a BBQ lunch. We hope to see you there.

First place went to Sandra Breust/Sue Sansom, Heather McGourty and Margie Naylor (skip) who led throughout to win their match 14 to 5 against Leeanne Adamthwaite, Kaye Whiffen and Jan Rapkins (skip). Darrel Goodridge and Deb Cargill (skip) led 12 to 8 after 9 ends and 13 to 10 after 12 ends before they drew clear for a 22 to 11 win against Suzanne Dainer and Jenny Coulson (skip). Jan Rapkins will celebrate her birthday on Friday 11 September. Congratulations Jan, have a great day.

The Women’s Major Singles has been posted so make sure you put your name down.

In the first round of the Mixed Fours Jenny Coulson, Peter Dillon, Rob Coulson and Greg Ryan (skip) started well to lead 14 to 5 after 9 ends and they went on with their good bowls to win their match 27 to 7 against Leeanne Adamthwaite, Rodney Turner, John Voytas and Pat Barklem (skip). Russell Burke, Cindy Newell, Keith Pickett and Ray Gale (skip) were down 0 to 8 after 5 ends and 5 to 9 after 8 ends before they took the next 6 ends to lead 19 to 9 after 14 ends. They continued on to win their match 20 to 12 against Sandra Breust, Ella Breust, John Breust and Jay Breust (skip). Sue Sansom, Kaye Whiffen, Warren Bender and John Downie (skip) dropped a 4 on end one then took the next 9 ends to lead 19 to 4 after 10 ends. They had to defend strongly for the rest of the match to win the game 23 to 14 against Suzanne Dainer, Jan Rapkins, Peter Tinson and Gary Murane (skip).

Social Bowls

On Wednesday we had 6 rinks of Triples and 2 rinks of Pairs with winners decided by Lowest Winning Score. First place went to John Voytas, Allan Chisholm and John McNamara (skip) who had a great match where they were down 10 to 11 after 10 ends and then 14 all after 15 ends before they just got home, 19 to 18, against Jan Rapkins, Peter Tinson and Gary Murane (skip). Second place went to Ian Jorgenson, Bob Lucas and John Scott (skip) who led 9 to 8 after 11 ends and after being 13 all after 16 ends they edged clear for a 19 to 15 win against Garry Burke, Jim Constan and Peter Jones (skip). Jeff McCusker got busy early to have the 1st resting toucher at 12.40. Well done Jeff, the early accuracy gets the $s! Thank you to Rapley & Son’s Butchery for their continued support.

Amanda Simpson and Rodney Turner (skip) led 11 to 4 after 9 ends before they led 11 to 9 after 12 ends before they skipped away for a 21 to 13 win against Kaye Whiffen and Bruce Rapkins (skip). Enid Brooker, Leeanne Adamthwaite and Ross Richardson (skip) led 11 to 9 after 12 ends before finishing strongly for a 21 to 9 win against John Downie/Sue Samson, Christine Cockerell and Brian Adamthwaite (skip). Peter Hawker, Merrie Downie and Warren Bender (skip) started slowly to trail 0 to 6 after 5 ends and 6 to 9 after 9 ends before they came home well for a 22 to 10 win against Jenny/Rob McIntyre, Olwyn Mayer and Pat Barklem (skip).

In the first round of the Mixed Fours Margie Naylor, Peter Murton, Rhys Budnick and Les Waldock (skip) played Sue Waldock, Allan Chisholm, Mark Bartrop and Peter Jones (skip). Les and his team were down 3 to 8 after 4 ends before they got their rhythm to take the next 9 ends to move out to a 24 to 8 lead. They continued thar form to win their match 27 to 10.

On Wednesday 19 August we had 7 rinks of Triples and winners were decided by Highest Winning Margin. Taking first prize were John Breust, Cindy Newell and Keith Pickett (skip) who led 8 to 7 after 9 ends before they put their concentration faces on to draw away for a 30 to 12 win against Sue Waldock, Warren Bender and John Downie (skip). Second place went to promising lead Gavin Richardson, Greg Maloney and Ray Gale (skip) who led 12 to 3 after 10 ends on their path to a 26 to 13 win against Peter Fitzpatrick, Ross Richardson and John Scott (skip).

On Saturday Peter Tinson and Gary Murane (skip) had a great match where they were all square at 12 all after 13 ends and after putting in a burst they led 22 to 13 after 19 ends. This margin was reduced to 22 to 20 after 22 ends before they secured the last 2 ends for a 24 to 20 win against Les Waldock and Deb Cargill (skip).

On Sunday we had 3 rinks of triples and winners were decided by Highest Winning Margin. First place went to Merrie Downie, Aurelia Robinson and Jan Rapkins (skip) who led 6 to 3 after 9 ends before they got a couple of good ends on their way to a 17 to 9 win against Lee and Terry Lewis, Trent Brooker and Jean Vos (skip). Amanda Simpson, Ross Richardson and Bruce Rapkins (skip) started slowly to trail 2 to 11 after 9 ends before they started to fire and finished strongly to hit the front, 15 to 13 on the last end against Rob and Jenny McIntyre, Pieter Vos and John Downie (skip). Pat Barklem, Judy Moore and Peter Tinson (skip) had a great game where they led 6 to 5 after 8 ends, then moved out to a 13 to 5 lead after 13 ends. They conceded the remaining ends to run out with a 13 all draw against Enid Brooker, Rob Simpson and Warren Bender (skip).

We only had 2 games of Pairs on Tuesday 18 August. We just had a friendly day because of the numbers. Treat Dufty and Peter Tinson (skip) were down 5 to 10 after 9 ends and after being 13 all after 14 ends they took their match 16 to 13 against Suzanne Dainer and Deb Cargill (skip). Jan Rapkins and John Scott (skip) were 8 all after 8 ends before they really got going to win their match 19 to 11 against Christine Cockerell and Bruce Rapkins (skip).

President Pairs Final

The Final of the President Pairs was played on Wednesday with two top teams making it through the tough competition to compete for the title. Mick Cavic and Jock Commins (skip) played Ian Jorgenson and Rhys Budnick (skip) in an excellent display of top draw bowls. The first set was very close with the score all tied up at 7 all after 8 ends. Ian and Rhys were all over the jack on the last end and Mick and Jock couldn’t move the shot bowls and Ian and Rhys took the set 13 to 7. In set 2 Mick and Jock got away to a top start to lead 12 to nil after 5 ends and they went on to take the set 14 to 4. In a very tense tie break Mick and Jock got on the jack early and kept the shots to win the match. Congratulations to Mick and Jock, what an achievement to take out the President Pairs for 2025/26.

Social Bowls Report - 16th August
On Wednesday 5 August we had a good turnout of bowlers with winners decided by Lowest Winning Score. First place went to Ian Jorgenson, Dennis Maggs and Col Armstrong (skip) who turned up early to lead 19 to 4 after 11 ends on their way to a 22 to 12 win against Bob and Janet Murphy, (back for a quick visit), and Peter Murton (skip). Second place went to Garry Burke, Tony Gors and Peter Jones (skip) who also took off early to lead 14 to 2 after 10 ends before taking the second half 9 to 8 for a 23 to 10 win against John Rowley, Rhys Budnick and John McNamara (skip).

On Wednesday 12 August we had Lowest Winning Score, again, to decide the winners. First place went to Deb Cargill, Tony Cobcroft and Peter Pickett (skip) who were down 7 to 11 after 11 ends before they hit the front, 12 to 11 after 14 ends. After being all square at 14 all after 17 ends they took 2 of the remaining 3 ends to take their match 16 to 15 against Alison Maloney, Greg Maloney and Ray Gale (skip). Second place went to Leanne Adamthwaite, Margie Naylor and Terry Lewis (skip) who had a great match to lead 10 to 8 after 11 ends, then lost the lead but recovered to sn**ch the lead back, 15 to 12, after 14 ends and stayed in front to win their match 19 to 17 against Darrel Goodridge, Dennis Maggs and Col Armstrong (skip). Thank you to Rapley and Sons for their continued support.

Saturday, 15 August, saw a Triples team win the money and in a game of scoring bursts Sue Waldock, Peter Tinson and Peter McKay (skip) led 11 to 3, 14 to 4 and then 17 to 5 after 14 ends before losing the lead, 17 to 19 on end 19. They came back to pick up 2 shots on the last end to square the match at 19 all to share the game with Darrel Goodridge, Deb Cargill and Gary Murane (skip).

Social Bowls Report - 14th August

On Saturday, 8 August the pairs competition was won by Rob Coulson and Rhys Budnick (skip) who were in fine form to lead throughout to take their match 27 to 4 against Peter Murton and Keith Pickett (skip).

On Sunday 9 August we had 2 rinks of Triples and 2 rinks of pairs and Winners were decided by Lucky Rinks. Peter Hawker, Margie Brown and Bruce Rapkins (skip) had a close game where they led 8 to 7 after 8 ends and 13 to 11 after 13 ends before they turned up the heat to draw clear for a 20 to 13 win against Rob and Jenny McIntyre, Amanda Simpson and Jean Vos (skip).Aurelia Robinson and Peter Tinson (skip) were 9 all after 10 ends, led 12 to 11 after 14 ends before they came home hard for a 21 to 12 win against Pieter Vos and Clare Cork (skip). Merrie Downie, Pat Barklem and Jan Rapkins (skip) led 8 to 5 after 8 ends and were all square at 11 all after 14 ends before they upped their game to draw clear for an 18 to 11 win against Enid Brooker, Leanne Adamthwaite and Warren Bender (skip). Sue Waldock and John Downie (skip) were up 7 to 6 after 8 ends before putting in some big ends to move out to a 20 to 10 lead after 18 ends on their way to a 26 to 12 win against Bryan Adamthwaite and Rod Turner (skip).

We only had 1 game of Triples on Tuesday 11 August with a double score on end 10. We just had a friendly day because of the numbers. Kaye Whiffen, Alison Maloney/Marg Naylor and Deb Cargill (skip) led 8 to 7 after 9 ends before they picked up 8 shots on end 10 to skip away to a 16 to 7 lead. They had to repel a determined opposition after the score was squared at 16 all after 15 ends by taking the final 3 ends for a 19 to 16 win against Jean Vos, Suzanne Dainer and Jan Rapkins/Jenny Coulson (skip). Jenny Coulson will celebrate her birthday on Friday 21 August. Congratulations Jenny, enjoy your special day.

It would be great if we could get a few more bowlers to come along on Tuesday’s so that we can continue to run this enjoyable morning of social bowls.
