Round 6 of the Formula Ford Championship at Wanneroo gave AJ the opportunity to step into another car and see what we could do with a fresh set of wheels. With only a brief 25-lap practice session on Friday before Saturday morning qualifying, there were a few small setup issues to iron out while getting used to a completely different machine.
Qualifying set the stage, with AJ putting his new ride P3 on the grid.
Realising the car was not balanced and after adjusting the brake bias, he was set and ready for Race 1.
Race 1: Despite a tough start dropping us to 4th, AJ fought back through the pack—swapping the lead multiple times—to take the win! A minor setback followed with a 5-second penalty for a driver infringement, but AJ’s new found pace was undeniable.
Race 2: Full of confidence, AJ showed off his newfound speed. Dropping back early once again, he put on a clinical drive to slice through the field and claim another race win.
Race 3: Starting from pole, luck took an unexpected turn. Leaving the grid, a quick loss of traction speared the car left into the pit wall, damaging the front suspension and ending the day with a DNF.
While the sudden end to the final race cost a strong opportunity at the overall round victory, the event yielded vital positives. AJ proved immediately competitive in the new car, securing two on-track victories with minimal preparation. It was a dramatic turn of events in a race that had every potential for an overall round win, but that's motorsport!
In the right car, AJ has the pace to fight at the front and win races. With a little more seat time to get fully dialled in, we know what this package is capable of. A huge thanks to everyone supporting us!
