The University hosted a memorial tribute today for our beloved Bernie.
Just as Bernie fostered and initiated connections, today was no exception. Family, friends, colleagues, alumni and sports people gathered and connected today to remember this great man.

It is with heavy hearts we share the news of the passing of seahorse 147 Bernie Curran.

Bernie’s contribution to University of Newcastle rugby was unrivalled, solidified in 2019 when university oval number 1 was officially renamed Bernie Curran Oval. His memory will forever live on as current and future generations from university rugby players play on Bernie Curran Oval.

Bernie was often found at our home games chatting to our current players and old boys alike. He will be sorely missed by the entire Hunter rugby and university community.

University of Newcastle Blue 1976
University of Newcastle Colour 1988
The Forum, Newcastle University Sport honorary life member 1993

Vale Barry Mullard who passed away peacefully on 26 July 2020.
Barry was a life member of Cooks Hill Surf Club, a life member of the University of Newcastle Rugby Union Club and was awarded a University Colour for services to Rugby in 2011.
