Life can knock you sideways, illness, burnout, loss, a major change you didn't see coming. Sometimes the hardest part isn't what happened, it's no longer recognising yourself underneath it all.
RIDE Life Coaching helps you reconnect with who you are beneath the roles, decide what matters now, and take the next step from there. Website's live, link in bio.

In a breathwork session this week we were talking about our favorite things to do when we were kids.
I remember I spent a lot of time upside down, hanging off trees, climbing equipment, clotheslines. Doing backbends and handstands whenever I could.
Looking back, I don't think it was just about burning off energy.
I think I genuinely enjoyed seeing the world from a different perspective.
Maybe that's something we lose as adults.
We get so used to looking at our problems from the same angle that we assume that's the only way they can be seen.
Sometimes nothing has to change except where we're standing.
Or whether we're willing to turn the whole thing upside down for a moment. (Because if I tried to hang upside down now, I would fall on my head.)
It's funny how often the answer isn't in working harder. Sometimes it's simply in looking differently.
What about you? What's something you loved doing as a child that tells you something about who you've always been?

Six years ago, I was walking along the Thames River path in Maidenhead a few days before the first UK lockdown.

It was meant to be part of an adventure with my husband.
Instead, he was back in Australia awaiting a visa.

My aunt, the relative I was closest to there, was dying.
I was only a couple of hours away, but couldn’t see her.

On the surface, I coped.

I walked.
I planned.
I adjusted.
I made practical decisions.

From the outside, I was functioning.

And at the same time, life offered unexpected support.

A landlady who became steadier than I knew I needed.
An extended family that stepped forward.
A job with people whose generosity and purpose gave that season meaning.

Support existed.
Grief existed.
Limitation existed.

All of it was true at once.
But something else was happening quietly.
My world narrowed.

I became the one who manages.
The one who absorbs.
The one who doesn’t make things harder.
The one who takes people at their word to conserve energy.

It took me some time to realise something important:

Limitation is real.
Identity shrinkage is not inevitable.

We can adapt without becoming smaller.
Have you noticed that shift in your own life?
