Sydney Trapeze School’s 50-Up classes are designed for people aged 50 and over who want to try circus skills, build confidence and get active in a fun, supportive environment. You don’t need to be an experienced performer to start.
The programme is specifically adapted for older adult beginners, with individualised instruction and modifications to suit different abilities.
What will you learn?
1. Aerial skills
Try circus apparatus such as aerial silks, hoop (lyra), trapeze and aerial hammock. You’ll learn basic positions, ways to move on the equipment and how to develop your skills progressively
2.Strength, balance and coordination
Practise movements that help you develop body awareness, stability, flexibility and strength. Exercises can be adapted to your starting ability.
3. Ground-based circus skills
Have a go at juggling, plate spinning and other circus activities, giving you a chance to explore different skills rather than concentrating on aerial work alone.
4. Confidence, creativity and community
Discover what your body can do, learn alongside other adults and enjoy the experience of trying something new. There may also be opportunities to progress towards performing.
