π§ Dementia Action Week 2026
π
21-27 September
It's time to talk about dementia.
This Dementia Action Week, the Australian Recreational Therapy Association (ARTA) joins communities across Australia in raising awareness, encouraging understanding, and creating opportunities for meaningful conversations about dementia.
Recreational Therapists play an important role in supporting people living with dementia, as well as their families, loved ones, and carers. Through person-centred, strengths-based approaches, Recreational Therapists help individuals remain engaged in meaningful activities that promote connection, purpose, wellbeing, and quality of life.
Whether through music, creative arts, reminiscence, leisure education, physical activity, social engagement, or community participation, Recreational Therapists work alongside people living with dementia to focus on abilities, preferences, and what matters most to them.
Dementia affects more than memory. It impacts individuals, families, friendships, and communities. By talking openly about dementia, reducing stigma, and fostering understanding, we can help create more supportive and inclusive environments for everyone.
This week, let's start conversations, share experiences, and recognise the invaluable contributions of carers, families, support workers, and health professionals who walk alongside people living with dementia every day.
