What do you do to stay healthy?

There are many ways in which we can maintain good health, but everybody has their own definition of what is “healthy”.

*My definition*

Healthy is being of sound physical, mental and emotional well-being.

For me this meant taking a step back from exercise and enjoying a picnic with my wife during a nice sunny day.

Some will try to pigeon hole themselves into a specific set of criteria to get healthy while neglecting other aspects of their health.

If you read this, please don’t be afraid to take a step back and analyze how you currently prioritize your health, and see if you can make improvements. we can all improve some aspects of our health.

Please leave a comment below on what your definition of healthy is, and how you maintain a healthy lifestyle

Shout out to Marlon

Marlon is a friend of mine. I have been working with him for the past year to help support and guide him towards his goals. By offering nutritional guidance, technique assessments, accountability and regular check-ins.

He has lost fat and built muscle with his own determination and willingness to learn how to improve his form, try new workouts and step outside of hit comfort zone.

He has managed to come so far with both his strength and physique, he has the type of determination that I don’t see often.

Absolute legends

Do you suffer from gym anxiety? Me too!

From the first day that I stepped foot into the gym, I have suffered from gym anxiety. I started my journey at Jetts, using only the treadmill, and same treadmill every time for the first 4 weeks of my gym membership. As I spent more time in the gym, I would slowly branch out to other equipment as I got more comfortable and saw more results, however, to this day after studying a health & fitness degree and training for several years I still struggle with gym anxiety. Over the past 5 years I have developed my own techniques, in combination with studying exercise science and exercise psychology to overcome this, and gain confidence in the gym.

The important question is how have I managed to maintain consistency throughout the year? And how can I apply this to you? My personal favorite method to overcome this, is to find your flow state! the flow state is about finding a positive psychological balance between anxiety and boredom. In order to reach the flow state, I would find what I enjoyed doing in the gym, regardless of whether what I was doing was optimal, intense enough, the best way to achieve my fitness goals or even specific to my goals. The ultimate outcome for me was enjoyment!

But what is the flow state? as previously mentioned it refers to finding a positive psychological balance between anxiety and boredom. You will have experienced this many times throughout your life, that feeling of time flying by when you're having fun, that is flow state. Techniques can be developed to reach this state for any task. It can be quite difficult to achieve flow state intentionally with unfamiliar or uncomfortable tasks, too much stress or boredom either way can lead to high levels of anxiety, and boredom. If you, or somebody you know, suffers with gym anxiety, don’t be afraid to contact me, so we can find your flow and develop a 1-on-1 approach to achieve your goals.

Hi, my name is Jack Price. I'm currently a third year exercise science student at Murdoch university. I specialize in injury prevention, and managing gym anxiety. I strongly believe that exercise is the best medicine.
When I started going to the gym I found it hard to use any equipment outside of a treadmill due to my anxiety, and now 5 years later with the knowledge I developed from going to gym myself and my studies, it has become the place I feel the most confident. I want to help and support others through this process, and help guide them to their health and fitness goals.
